what is priority on a sitemap?

i see our pages are listed with priority on our sitemap and different pages have different priority ranking. for example, our root index is highest

<loc>http://www.luckypornreviews.com/</loc>
<priority>1.00</priority>

this one is somewhat lower

<loc>http://www.luckypornreviews.com/reviews/</loc>
<priority>0.80</priority>

and here’s our lowest priority page

<loc>http://www.luckypornreviews.com/reviews/oral/</loc>
<priority>0.26</priority>

anyone know what this is, what it means and what we can do to them - if anything - to improve things for google? anything would be helpful to know!

Re: what is priority on a sitemap?

Its just used to indicate to Google how important something is. So main pages would have maybe 1.0, one step down say a category or folder on your site would have 0.8. And so on…

It’s to show how important something is in relation to each other on a site.

I’m not sure if they use it. But its not good to give everything the same value, if you do Google sitemap will report it as a error.
