Warning for Tumblr users re videos

Not sure if you all went through the terms & conditions when you signed up for a Tumblr account, so this little warning might be useful.

Yesterday, I uploaded a 1 minute video clip to one of my Tumblr blogs and I was pretty happy when I noticed that others were re-blogging the video like crazy.Today, the video post was removed from my blog and received the following e-mail from Tumblr.

We have removed content from your blog at http://xxxxx.tumblr.com/xxxxx/ because the content violated the Terms of Service and Community Guidelines that you accepted when you created your account. We do not allow users to upload sexual videos on Tumblr.

If you believe we removed this content in error, you may contact us at abuse[at]tumblr.com detailing your concerns.

You can review Tumblr’s Community Guidelines at http://www.tumblr.com/policy/en/community. Repeat violations of Tumblr’s policies may result in account termination.

So, they have no problem with adult content, except when it’s a video. Luckily they only removed the post and not the entire blog or my account.

Re: Warning for Tumblr users re videos

Yup. Somewhere on their site they say that while they welcome adult content, hosting porn videos is too expensive and they will delete any porn videos hosted on their server. The way they worded it … it’s not that they don’t want to host porn videos, they just don’t want to pay for hosting porn videos … so must embed.

Same here… just uploaded a new teaser and it got pulled within 10 mins. Warning email sent.

What’s the easiest way to embed?

I think using the embed code from JW Player or Flowplayer would work. In that case, the video player, the video itself and the preview image are hosted on your own server.

Re: Warning for Tumblr users re videos

Yes I think video itself is the problem I’ve posted a wrestling video sometime ago (no nudity) and they removed which was quite strange, now I know why.

Re: Warning for Tumblr users re videos

That’s good to know. When pocoloco told me this I thought it was a content issue and Tumblr was being heavy handed in censoring content, now I see it’s a video and bandwidth issue. That’s quite a different matter and understandable.
