Video Editing Work Flow On Mac - How To Questions

I am in the testing phase of working with a iMac computer as a possible replacement for my Windows machine. I would like to ask if someone who uses a Mac for editing videos if they could give me an idea of their work flow from the raw video to the ready for the web .mp4 format file.

I know that is a lot to ask since there are multiple steps but that’s the point…I don’t want to “reinvent the wheel” when it could be easier. I am interested in the basics. Like is iMovie good enough for editing or is Final Cut a must have (seems like it might be overkill for my needs just looking at it). I just do some basic cut and paste of the scenes…might have to tweak the color/contrast…sharpen etc.

I have been using Sony Movie Studio 12 which does the editing and even renders the final mp4 so it’s one program for everything from start to finish. Could there be such a method within the Mac environment?

Feel free to PM or email if you prefer.

Thanks!

Get a copy of Adobe Premiere CC

Re: Video Editing Work Flow On Mac - How To Questions

I am test driving that right now as an option.

Re: Video Editing Work Flow On Mac - How To Questions

I recently started to use Premiere CC as well, at first it’s quite daunting but once you get past the first hurdle’s you soon see it’s a very good package. Specially if you’re already subscribing to Adobe and can use it for free. I’ve had a lot use out of my monthly subscription!

Yes, it looks like quite a bit to learn to do basic editing. I am going to give it a go. One question, once I have the editing done can that program encode and render the web ready mp4 files or do I need a program like Handbrake to get that done? Just wondering since this mac stuff is new and I have 8 more days to return this iMac for a full refund if I decide it is not going to work out for me needs.

Thanks!

Re: Video Editing Work Flow On Mac - How To Questions

I edit on an iMac. I use Final Cut Pro 7 only because I do 2-camera shoots sometimes and I need the multi-nagle editing features. But if your source material is from a single camera, you’d probably be very happy using iMovie. It’s cheap, easy and has a lot of features. I’ve see some pretty good porn made in iMovie.

Thanks for the info Robert. I am going to have to have you give me a small tutorial. I am a fast learner! I will hit you up with a text and we can make some plans.
