Sales comparison this year so far -Sales up, Revenue down

I compared sales so far this year with last year and found some odd things that stands out.

I’ve made 17% more sales this year so far compared to last year same period. However overall revenue is down 6% and rebills down 6%. Revenue per first sale is down by a whopping 20%.

So basically I sell more but I get less for each sale and it also rebills slightly worse.

Is this the result of studios cutting pricing to lure customers during economic slowdown? Or, has interest in a lower price sponsor overtaken sales for higher price sites?

Perhaps it’s a mix of the two?

I’ve seen something similar (anecdotally, at least). My two primary sponsors for one site are Englishlads and Islandstuds, and I’ve seen a serious drop in sales for EL while IS has risen, but it’s a lower payout.

It’s through no fault of my own either. EL has really scaled back on their content with far fewer duos, no groups, and more restricted updates that affiliates can’t promote.

Sales Jan–Apr: Down 10% overall

Breakdown by month:
Jan -4.96%
Feb -9.34%
Mar -14.59%
Apr -12.72%

Since I’ve had to block access to my site from 19 out of 50 U.S. states due to new age verification laws, the drop in sales isn’t exactly unexpected. If anything, I’m surprised it’s not worse. That said, it still sucks. The workload hasn’t changed, but the revenue is down, and looking at the trend so far this year, it seems like things may continue to get worse.

@Bjorn, I wish I could give a clean comparison, but my situation is probably too different to be much help. Blocking so much U.S. traffic has skewed my numbers enough that I can’t really tell if I’m seeing the same thing you are. I might be, but it’s buried under all the changes I’ve made.

Still wanted to share in case it’s useful context or part of a larger pattern.

Kevin.

Thanks for sharing but yes I think you’re right. It’s not possible to compare with yours as you’re blocking a lot of traffic which would probably account for most of the loss.

What I mean is that I’ve seen a increase the amount of sales but a decline in the money made.

I would imagine it’s a result of most porn sites being perpetually on sale. There is always some kind of a sale: Christmas, Valentine’s, Easter, Labor Day, Black Friday, Thanksgiving … no one has to pay full price anymore, just wait a week and there will be a sale. That has to be affecting your bottom line.

Having sales helps sales always that is why we always run some sort of promotion.
