Promoting Porn DVDs?

I know some of you have had success with putting your content on DVD, so I’d like to get some advice.

I’ve done three DVDs to date with Pornteam. (Yay!) They’re also on AEBN.
My newest one, Real Guys Exposed: Show & Tell 2 has some name pron stars like Colby Keller and Conner Habib.

My question is: How do I get the word out about these discs? Chris from Pornteam does a great job doing an email blast, but after that its just a matter of crossing my fingers. I know that’s a bad idea.

So what more can I do to promote my DVDs past and present. Do my affiliates want to know? Would some kind of press release work? Has anyone rose had some success with a clever way to sell some discs? What do you do that works?

I’d really appreciate any advice you have.
Thanks so much!

Selling DVD’s today in this market place is super challenging. Its not a reliable source of income anymore. Chris at Pornteam is one of the best places to have your DVDs selling and then you have the online theaters which is also the best place. You also may want to think of selling the DVDs yourself by creating a online store and let your customers know you can sell the DVDs directly from you.

Lastly, there are always the distributors which can be very risky. In most cases the distributors will take your DVDs, promise you money and then you have to fight to get your payment from them and your DVD’s returned to you. Dealing with the distributors can be very challenging!

Re: Promoting Porn DVDs?

Thanks, David & Eddie.
I’m really happy with Chris at Pornteam. I just got a box full of my DVDs on Saturday and it’s always so exciting to see them all printed up and shrink-wrapped!

I just gotta figure out how to move more of those discs!

Re: Promoting Porn DVDs?

DVD’s are for what I call Superfans…or Collectors They are harder to sell, but that market is far from dead…IMO…

Im a total newbie at this…Only been making AMATEUR HOMEMADE content since 2007 However, I have enjoyed moderate success…although I tried to sign on with pornteam back in 08 and they wouldnt give me the time of day…That said…I think DVD’s appeal to porn collectors judging from the amount of fan mail I recieve and If I was just trying to move boxes of DVD’s I think I would focus my efforts trying to reach them… It takes a little more work, and a slightly different mindset…since that contents value isnt increasing sitting on your freshly pressed unsold discs.

I know y’all are going to hate this…but Xtube is an awesome place to try and sell DVD’s, and build up a fan base.Sure there are a lot of “free loaders” there…but there is also a stunning amount of collectors there as well, and people willing to spend money. I mentioned this before…I had one guy from xtube buy over 30 titles in one sitting. Doesnt happen a whole lot…but it happened. Take your DVD collection…make a few clips…Upload to the tube…Get you an amateur account if youve got ID scans and model release scans…and as you accumulate fans asking where they can purchase complete vids…either refer them to your seller…or sell them direct. The good news is that having an amateur account at xtube seems to in no way negatively impact sales at AEBN…so it’s a win/win for the content owner…Plus you can tailor your content on the Tube daily if you wish…And get paid…while you try to unload your DVD’s. If you did it right. You could recoup…the production costs…(well I can anyway cause Im so low budget)…Just from the revenue from your amateur account at xtube from some of the clips of your DVD collection.

Although…My plan might work better with amateur vids and non-brand name talent though…Conner Habib is hot shit aint he? Maybe they are over exposed? or in “better” Productions with “better” people? somewhere else?

Joe Schmoe
hey Im 21 regina and 22regina on xtube…Check me out if you get a chance cause I have some questions about websites I wanna ask y’all…
Thanks

Re: Promoting Porn DVDs?

Hi Everyone

Thanks for all the kind words. I thought I would chime in and say a couple of things about promoting DVDs.

First, Joe Schmoe - I want to say that I am really sorry if we dropped the ball. I spent the morning looking through our application system and emails and found the email you send over on 3/13/2008 entitled “getting on pornteam” we did reply to you that day, I will re-forward our email to you and send it to you as a PM here on GayDemon.

Robert -

On DVD promotion there is a ton of different ways on getting thew word out there about your titles. One easy way is to get the Video in front of bloggers and get them talking about the DVD. This is a low cost way to get the word out and get people talking about it. Another way is also send screeners to reviewers out there. I.e. the BAR (Bay Area Reporter) and Frontiers Magazine. There are others, but don’t want to give away all the secrets in the forum.

Something that we have found over the years, is releasing titles consistently also helps. If you could get on a schedule of releasing a DVD every month or every other month, you will have that consistent promotion in front of wholesale customers as well as consumers.

We have also found sending out Press Releases about titles is also a good way of promoting DVDs, targeting bloggers is part of this, but also sending them to xBiz (xBiz we send automatically for the AVI (adult Video Index)), JRL (we send to automatically) & GayVN.

Last but not least, you have a mailing list. or a list of members (current and past) lets send them an email, lets put your titles in front of them. These customers already like your product or have seen what you have to offer, they are the first people that would be most likely purchase your DVDs. We could also talk about putting together a store for your site to offer the titles to people that are coming along that may not join your site.

These are just a few simple ways of getting the information out there about your DVDs. Give me a call this week, lets talk I have a couple or over ideas that might work for you, but need to get your feedback on it.

Hope some of this helps.

Thanks again for all your support! We are very excited that we have been nominated as Specialty Distributor of the Year for 2012 by xBiz. Thanks again!!
