Pre selected join options.. again..

I tried to find the previous post (I think there was one) about pre selected options on Gay Gravy sites.

I’ve only looked or checked one site, but I presume its the same on all.

Basically on the join page, they have 2 pre selected options right at the bottom BELOW the “join” button, and I presume below the fold on most monitors. Which means a lot of people would easily miss these extra options.

What it means is that the surfer joins 2 further sites, with 2 days free access then both rebill at $39.97… which means 2 days later the user gets a nice little bill for $80!

I have had a couple of complaints and both users have so far believed that someone stolen their credit card and have cancelled it through the bank.

To me, this seems extraordinary greedy and really a business tactic resevered for the more shady site of the web. Or am I wrong, is this just how it should be?

Re: Pre selected join options… again…

I don’t like it, and think it is rather sneaky, imho. I guess the excuse is that somehow or other it is smart business, or that the surfer/customer is supposed to check for these things. I just don’t like it, don’t believe it is good, even if it does grab extra revenue. :grrr:

Re: Pre selected join options… again…

i must admit i dont understand why VISA and/or payment processors continue to allow pre selected cross sells…

It is really a bad way to trick the customer…

Re: Pre selected join options… again…

This is what 60% of all surfers would see without scrolling:

And this is what you see if you actually bother to scroll down, which im sure many would not:

Re: Pre selected join options… again…

many medium to large pay per sale programs have pre-checked cross sales on their join pages. here’s just a few.

Re: Pre selected join options… again…

So did they get big by doing this or doing this because they got big?

Re: Pre selected join options… again…

probably got big or bigger doing it. keep in mind that early on, paysites made money every way they could. who could forget endless exit chains that finally made many either buy or shut down their computers entirely? or auto-installing dialers that encouraged guys to click without mentioning they’d be paying by the minute? almost no recurring sites mentioned that they recurred back in the day, and there are one or two that don’t mention it now. then there were tons of sites that required that you cancel a week before your rebill or they charged you again, and a few sites that required that you call them or send your cancel in writing.

not surprising that some of these programs made tons of money, especially considering that most affiliates never even considered things like that were happening.

There is a HUGE difference as to what they are doing and what GayGravy is doing… Attached are two screenshots from my laptop. One is what is see on the page w/o scrolling and the other is what I see after I scroll.

I BELIEVE Mario posted about this when he got tricked and the guys at gay gravy said it was a system issue. Go figure.

Here is the thread by another webmaster -

Now, there is no way in hell the average surfer would ever see this at all. On the other hand, they are also doing it on RevShare as well. If you do it on RevShare you might as well pay out 100% recurring.

Re: Pre selected join options… again…

It makes people complaining about banners on tour pages seem quite trivial

Re: Pre selected join options… again…

Not really.

x-sells below the join button fucks over surfer, banners on tour pages fuck over affiliates.

Re: Pre selected join options… again…

Banners on tour pages help surfers find what they’re looking for if they happened to not find it on that site. jeeeesh nobody is fucking over the affiliate.

x-sells bellow the join button is very wrong and deceitful. Yet these huge programs are doing it and affiliates are promoting them because of the high payout… I’m kind of still in shock that affiliates support this on such a large scale.
