It’s not paid, it’s crowdsourcing. So basically they want a lot of people to work for free and they will only pay the one that delivers the best result
That approach was used a few years back with a “do a banner/web/tgp/what-ever design and if we pick yours we’ll pay you $x-amount of money” – some guys actually submitted work, some votes were cast, and a winner was chosen. I think the only one I bothered with was a new avatar for DonMike, sporting a rainbow mohawk. Can’t recall if I won anything but he used it on the forums for quite some time.
