Images, Google and Traffic

Hey Folks

When studying Google analytics, how can you tell when what is considered a unique to your site is ACTUALLY just someone grabbing images via Google’s image search?

Thanks and happy weekend

Re: Images, Google and Traffic

I’m not 100% sure but seeing as the java script for Google Analytics is within your HTML pages if the user is only viewing an image from Google’s image search it won’t be fetching the HTML page containing the java script so therefore no hits will appear in Analytics.

Kevin is right. Someone grabbing just your images, be it Google or hot linking would not show up in Analytics.

You should be able to see separately in your statistics what or how much traffic is from Google Images. Normally shows in Analytics. Do also remember that Google Images for adult went down the drain a couple of years ago. Not sure there is much traffic from it.

Thank you Kevin and Bjorn.

I was curious as someone on the board here a couple of weeks ago implied that Google image retrievals would show up as a unique HIT on one’s site.

The hit will show up in your server logs/stats but not Analytics.
