With Google’s March 21 deadline approaching for mobile optimization, I got rawtop.com responsive as of yesterday. I’m now wondering about my tube site. It’s not responsive, but I’m wondering whether it’s worth it or a wast of time⦠The issue is that all the videos are served in just one size â “large”. Yes, I can get it so Google thinks it’s mobile optimized, but the user experience won’t be all that great since the videos are so large. If someone is on WiFi, I guess there’s no problem. But on a mobile network it would be rather problematic. So the question is â should I bother doing a responsive design if the videos aren’t optimized?

I’d bother, yes. Many people don’t browse porn on the street (from their mobile carrier). They do it from their homes, using their Wi-Fi’s which means they benefit from the same speed as they would on their computer.
The user experience would actually be quite great as most phones / tablets are Full HD nowadays and they would enjoy a Full HD video on their mobile but with a responsive, user-friendly design.

I only serve one size videos as well but still have a lot of mobile users. So yes, if you can do it why not. It’s traffic, and knowing you, building a brand it might help them to later visit the site from a normal browser.
Then again, if it looks really bad and isn’t a good experience it might put them off I suppose. But I can’t say any of my sites looks great in a mobile. They are ok and usable but to really get a good experience and too look good it needs to be a tablet.
The other thing to consider is will the videos actually play? Are they served in a way that most mobiles can use?

I’m still baffled by paying customers watching porn on a mobile phone in the comfort of their bed, in their house and in most cases, probably a computer in the room as well.
Hell, I’m baffled by guys watching porn on their mobile phone to help them get hard while filming a scene. Then again, I’m much older and the eyesight isn’t what it used to be.
However, I do agree with Andrei and Bjorn and can see their point of view. If you can do it, why not? I know I render 3 sizes of our videos including a mobile optimized.
Personally, I question, how many of our “paying customers” are using their mobile devices to watch porn and jerk off? That still remains a baffling issue in my own mind. Who the hell can see the action? What about that “in your face” kind of view that goes with adult entertainment? Is it just the overall scenario that minds need, to be stimulated? That’s about all they’re going to get watching on that tiny ass screen. Producer’s need to make sure and get a lot of close ups of the action when filming if that’s the case.
Don’t get me wrong, I do see customer support tickets from members that have issues from time to time using a mobile device. So Yes, I do know there are those using mobile devices and buying memberships. It’s just tough to swallow that they make up a large percentage of our profits. Non paying free loaders, younger people that can’t afford memberships, people that won’t ever pay for porn, yes.
As a business owner in this industry, is that a group of people you, we or I, need to worry about? There’s always 2 sides to a coin.
Yes, eventually they will grow up, mature and realize that it’s better to buy a membership. Lending weight to the old saying “You get what you pay for.” But if they’re satisfied just wading through the free videos on tube sites and/or pirated content, I agree with you rawTOP, why bother,
Last I checked, we do still have to pay for bandwidth.

I just wanted to add something that I found amusing to my comment about guys (models) watching porn while shooting a scene. Guess what they’re watching or should I say where they’re going to watch it? They themselves will tell you they go to free tube sites!
In many of the interviews when asked about how many times they jerk off a week and do they watch porn while doing it, they openly say “they watch free porn.”
And these same guys want to know why they don’t get paid more for doing a scene(s)?
