Has anyone sued RapidShare?

Their whole business model is criminal… charging members to download our content but not paying us for it. Certainly someone like Titan has pursued them.

I just found most of our content linked to RapidShare from a Yahoo Group that SluggerJ posted on GMS. Certainly this is worth a multi-million dollar judgement for us.

Hot House, Fratmen, All Worlds, UKNM… there are pretty much a ton of companies being ripped off here. Thousands of posts.

It might make sense to try to allow owners to get as many of those rapidshare links as possible first before killing the group. But chances are someone will be impatient, so work fast if you can. [/i]

Re: Has anyone sued RapidShare?

It does surprise me as well, other file sharing systems have been sued… but I’ve never heard anything about Rapidshare.

Re: Has anyone sued RapidShare?

It’s crazy. I found the group because I got a traffic spike on a site I haven’t even finished developing yet.

There were about 500 visits from people that clicked on a message’s “movie details” link. I can only imagine how many of those 18,000 members skipped that and just downloaded it.

Re: Has anyone sued RapidShare?

instead of suing, why not try to take out their funding? They use PayPal and its against PayPal’s TOS to be used on porn sites and illegal content sites. If enough people complained and if the article writers did some stories on this, they would cut them and other similar sites off.

Re: Has anyone sued RapidShare?

last i tried to get paypal to do anything about RS they just ignored me, and send me some “standard” ps email with a totally worthless reply, but if anyone can get through to them it would be great…

Re: Has anyone sued RapidShare?

Join Rapidshare and ask for your money back via Paypal stating that you didn’t realize there was porn and send them the link in your complaint.

Re: Has anyone sued RapidShare?

There you go.
I called paypal once with a complaint that someone was selling fake designer clothess and using PayPal for processing. They were taken down in 2 days.

Re: Has anyone sued RapidShare?

i just read ebay is being fined for allowing fake designer stuff to be sold on their site (news story here), maybe there is hope for getting these illegal content distribution networks taken down after all!
