I’ve just noticed how large amounts of pictures the different gay link lists are asking for. Its insane amounts for a small free site, and are sure to just be bad for business.
Most of them ask for a minimum of 50 pictures on each free site or they wont list it. But for example altagaylinks are asking for 60 pictures, and 150 free pictures to be a prefered site.
I mean what are these guys thinking? Giving away so much for free? Why have we gotten into this “giving it all for free”??

I’m amazed at the sponsors who seem to give away the entire photoset… I’ve noted several with 100+ photos per scene.

People are competing with quantity instead of quality. It doesn’t make sense, but then, most of the adult industry has never exactly had top-shelf marketing talent in it either

Perhaps Alta Gay Links was just getting too many submissions, so by increasing the requirements, they reduce the number of submissions.
And of course offering sites with more pictures probably gets them more surfers.

160 pics does seem too high to me for a freesite - but i understand 50. after all, blogs went from 1 to up to 12 pics on many sites, too. and the pics on those blogs got bigger.
there’s a fine line in how much gets a site more bookmarkers vs how much is too much. site A may lose surfers to site B if site A requres a freesite to have 25 pics and site B requires 50 pics per site. after all, that means the surfers get more free content per site.
on the other hand, one could change one’s quality requirements. i see that creeping up here and there, but what if one had a freesite requirement of only 20 pics but they had to be really good quality, large (say a minimum of 600x900) and had to show variety within the pics, not just pics where from one pic to the next the guy moves his hand? do you think that would bring more bookmarkers?
i guess what i’m asking is do you think quality keep bookmarkers as well as sheer amount of content?

I have always found that free sites with more pics made more sales. Four galleries of 15 pics gives me way more advertising space than 2 galleries of twenty pics. Most surfers don’t click every picture anyways. They find the ones that they like and click them. A 60 pic site could in theory have hardly any nudity in the first gallery. So, it’s really a 40 pic site.
That’s why I always felt that having unique sales text in each gallery was very important. More chances for a sale.

Not anywhere near as much as you use to. Directories having gotten smart over the years and it’s harder to get virgin traffic into the free sites. Most have already been exposed to the directories ads.

My theory has long been that the big pic number gay linklists like altagay were started using persian kitty and yahoo directory sites as a model.
It used to be, back in the period around 1998-2001, that persian kitty and yahoo directory and a batch of now defunct lists like siberiankitty and for a while Foxy’s would only list a site with 60 to a hundred pics.
Back then tho, pics were often only about 300x600 pixels in size and low quality.
Persian Kitty has since relaxed it’s rules quite a bit, and yahoo directory is pretty much pointless nowadays.
Thats why I’ve described the gay linklists as being like a blast from the past.

It’s though when Alta Gay Links sends some of the best traffic out there. So if you want it, you’ve got to have 60 pics.
