Did anyone else see a spike in Google traffic two days ago?

Wondering if any other people saw a dramatic jump in Google traffic two days ago? I know one of you did  but I’m just trying to make sense of two disparate things that happened at the same time. Two sites both had a huge jump in Google traffic on the same day. One was my Spanish language site, Machos Calientes, which I launched a little over 2 months ago.

The other was an old, established site that’s had problems with Google recently. It’s as if two days ago was reconsideration day - sites were let out of the sandbox and penalties were lifted. Just odd that it would happen on such different sites on the same exact day. It’ll be interesting to watch to see if the traffic stays up or goes back down. (Let’s hope it stays up).

Re: Did anyone else see a spike in Google traffic two days ago?

See it regulary, amazing week with google, then down for months, then again amazing weekend with google… not last two days as such but over the last 12 months it has been very strange and erratic

Re: Did anyone else see a spike in Google traffic two days ago?

To me that means you’ve got problems with SEO… My Google traffic is relatively linear…

Still I find it odd that Google is so indecisive as to whether it likes a site or not…

Re: Did anyone else see a spike in Google traffic two days ago?

Nice stats there RawTop…

I noticed my GA having a bit of problems being slow to update and perhaps a tiny rise in traffic but nothing near what you had there…

Re: Did anyone else see a spike in Google traffic two days ago?

I had a spike on a fairly new site of mine, BestMaleVideos.com, it increased by 25%+ overnight. All of the new traffic is from 2 sources, Google and Facebook. Both has almost exactly doubled overnight. Thursday 4th was normal, then Friday 5th it suddenly increased. Still holding steady but knowing how google is, I wouldn’t be surprised that it drops again by Tuesday.

Re: Did anyone else see a spike in Google traffic two days ago?

I will have to check our stats too, thanks for the heads up!

Re: Did anyone else see a spike in Google traffic two days ago?

So another new site that might be a case of being released from the sandbox… Interesting…

Re: Did anyone else see a spike in Google traffic two days ago?

Actually it’s more prominent today with increases in traffic.

I’ve compared two weekends, this weekend (5-7 Nov) with the previous weekend (29-31 Oct). And the results are quite interesting. This is increase or loss of Google Traffic:

http://www.queerpixels.com: +0% (no changes for a long time)
http://www.gaypornengine.com: -14% (old site, no changes for a long time)
http://www.bostonboyz.com: -5% (old site, no changes for a long time)
http://www.gaydemon.com: +300% (probably a fluke…)
http://www.gayvideofinder.com: -26% (very small site, no unique content)
http://www.spunkfeeds.com: -11% (small site, no unique content)
http://www.deviantalley.com: +0% (small newish site still under development but only unique content)
http://www.plublogs.com: -5% (old site, major changes recently, but search engines only account for 9% of all traffic)
http://www.bestmaleblogs.com: +0% (old site, no changes recently)
http://www.bestmalereview.com: +13% (new site, only unique content)
http://www.bestmalevideos.com: +125% (new site, only unique content)

I mentioned 25% before for BestMaleVideos, but actually when I compare the two weekends and look at only Google Traffic the increase is actually 125%!!

I still believe this is only temporary, I bet Google’s fiddling with something and some Sandbox filters have been dropped. Not sure but I guess older static sites could have been affected by a filter going down as they would possibly have lost traffic as they got pushed down in SERPs… or?

Re: Did anyone else see a spike in Google traffic two days ago?

Here are my numbers comparing Google organic over the two weekends… (Actually, I always see Friday as a weak day, and the weekend to me is Saturday through Monday since Monday is usually strong - but doing Friday to Sunday to match your numbers)…

rawTOP.com +7.8% (62% organic traffic)
Breeding Zone (bareback forum) +10% (22% organic traffic)
Wily Willy +9.6% (63% organic traffic)
Twisted Pig +25% (52% organic traffic)
Hot Naked Muscle +3.5% (41% organic traffic)
Machos Calientes +122% (50% organic traffic)

I should look at Google Images traffic too, but I’m too busy to do it right now…

Re: Did anyone else see a spike in Google traffic two days ago?

Google is strange. There are a handful of sites that I can tell how they are doing based on looking at about 10 keywords. There is a pattern there, I just don’t know how to crack it.

Re: Did anyone else see a spike in Google traffic two days ago?

After reading this post I had a look at the stats for my sites and yes, you are right, it did spike for me as well. Not sure what’s going on there but that’s Google for you. thanks for the heads up mate.

Re: Did anyone else see a spike in Google traffic two days ago?

Can you tell us more? How big was the spike (percentage wise over the time time the previous week)? And what are the nature of the sites (new or well-established)? Is your Google traffic usually pretty steady or does it jump around a lot?

Re: Did anyone else see a spike in Google traffic two days ago?

Google is definitely weird. My JockUSA blog has held the number one spot for “naked jocks” for well over a year, maybe longer. And there have been times when I haven’t updated the site for months. We’re constantly told that adding new content is one of the most important things to do to keep you on top, but at least with this site, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

My traffic to my sites from Google has been pretty consistent, but my blogs are in a growth phase. I haven’t seen any huge jumps (or declines) just steady growth.
