Best Search term for Traffic?

I’m wondering what would you say is the best Gay search term for traffic from search engines?

The more general ones like:

gay porn
free gay porn

Or maybe niche terms?

twinks
gay fetish
gay boys

Any ideas?

Re: Best Search term for Traffic?

Google trends will tell you which ones have the most search queries. The next question is whether you can rank for those terms…

Re: Best Search term for Traffic?

terms like “gay porn” or “twinks” have millions of listings, and i get much more traffic on tight microniched terms. chances are a lot better that a truly relevant page will get listed on the first search page focusing on terms like “men’s hairy feet” or “gay armpit sex”. chances are only good a site will get listed high on terms like “free gay porn” if they’re a very old well established site like, say, gaydemon

Re: Best Search term for Traffic?

When I first started people said free gay sex was the best…

Re: Best Search term for Traffic?

Funny, I was just talking a bit to Ian about this last night. I do best on under used terms where I can buy a domain name with the terms in them and setup WP, do a few posts, and forget about it.

Gay Sex and Gay Porn are probably two of the biggest in terms of traffic.

Re: Best Search term for Traffic?

Google Trends? Not a tool I seen, sounds interesting… where can I find it?

I’ll google for it…

There are two tools Google has for keyword analysis…

Google Trends
http://google.com/trends

and the Adwords Keyword Tool
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

The Adwords tool will take a group of terms you want to start with and suggest others and show you the search traffic on them as well as how competitively they’re priced on Adwords… It’s a very cool tool…

But even Google Trends can tell you a lot - like ‘bodybuilder’ is better than ‘body builder’…

Re: Best Search term for Traffic?

You probably know this already, the google adwords tool can suggest words which will then be flagged for “teen porn concepts”. If it wasn’t so irritating I would have laughed when it suggested “anal asian teen boys”.

Does anyone else find this trend extremely disturbing?

Re: Best Search term for Traffic?

And gay.com only has a PageRank of 6, yet it has an Alexa rank of 3,036! I think you have a point there…

Re: Best Search term for Traffic?

I tried Google Keyword tool as well, doesnt work at all. I also tried to use it while logged in to my adwords account. Still didnt work.

I had a look at the Google Trends, but didnt find it of much use. The old tool I used no longer works…

Any other suggestions?

Re: Best Search term for Traffic?

terms like gay porn, gay sex and free gay porn are hard to get and will give you general traffic that doesn’t convert that well - but niche specific terms are easier and get much more quality traffic.

Re: Best Search term for Traffic?

I kind of know which terms to use from experiance.

BUT what i need is some sort of tool to compare with, so i can check that I’m not totally wrong or something obvious i missed.

I have done a few really really wrong in the past, where I either spelled the words wrong or done SEO for words only I would search for. :bang:

I think extremely disturbing is putting it mildly. I think this is something some gay rights association should take up with Google, in public. I am pretty sure they will change that soon enough once it reaches the headlines. Not sure about US laws, but isn’t it even illegal, to discriminate like that based on sexual preference?

As for targeting terms, I would stay away from anything with “free” in it. If they want free porn, they can go someplace else :grrr:
