The UK Economy is doomed...

Or at least that’s what the Chancellor is saying according to the BBC tonight.

Could his words today be the nail in the coffin for any confidence remaining?

Meanwhile, this is what one of my members posted in my forum this week…

Hi guys!

Have just resubscribed after several months away and saw this topic and I must say that I agree completly with Matty. I don’t spend anything like as much on porn as I used to, either on the net or on DVDs, so am just having a month this time and will in the future - one month every few months. This is because with all the price rises, other things take priority and porn is one of the dispensable things isn’t it. Therefore, I’ll probably now just have one site at a time rather than several sites at the same time. Plus I guess in general that other things take priority and you spend your money reflecting that fact.

With regard to those being mugs for contiunuous subscription - I don’t think that’s fair. It’s about personal choice and how people want to spend their money. For thsoe who do renew they are paying less per month and as someone says, they get the super-resolution films as a reward for this if you like. Therefore, they definately are not mugs for constant renewal.

Generall on prices, this site is prices around the same as the other sites and all of us choose to subscribe because we like what we see. Plus, when you think about it, we are currently paying £22 per month and for that you get eight/nine films - scenes if you like. A typical R18 costs £20 to £30 but you get five scenes for that same anount of money don’t you plus, in addition, for my current £22 I am also getitng scenes which have appeared since I last subscribed. This altogetehr makes it far betetr value than purchasing a R18 from Clone Zone, not least because I love solo films and it’s rare to get R18s featuring solos.

With regard to the site itself, I have a lot of respect for this site and for Adam and how it is run. After all, I can’t think of any other site which raises money for charity. This remains my favourite site and I have taken out more subscriptions to this site than I have to any other site. People vote with their money don’t they and if people didn’t like the site then it wouldn’t be here would it.

Re: The UK Economy is doomed…

What can Ido to cheer you up? You get the brightest surfers on your site, its like a University of porn, and its worth joining for the forum alone. But hope you told him he’s wrong about charity donations, several others do it.

Completely agree people are being selective in their spending. I’ve noticed the bars here are empty midweek but still packed on a Saturday. So if people stay in more, they’ll spend more time on their computers. Its an opportunity. Our sales have continued to grow over the summer, whereas usually they dip. The poor weather has been a factor maybe. Sales of chocolate go up in a recession, so maybe porn will to, if you provide value, and something over abnd above what is available for free. Doubtless some sites will go out of business. A few deserve to, they give porn a bad name and put customers off. The better ones will have to work harder, and that means the customers will get a better product overall.

Re: The UK Economy is doomed…

I’ve not seen any downturn in sales at all this year. For me a bad UK Economy is good. The pound is low which means I’ve got more left over.

See I got another theory.

Whenever things are going tits up, when people feel low, economy is crap… People instead treat themselves to some small luxuries to cheer themselves up, like for example porn. I dont think that porn will nesseccarily get hit by a slowing economy, at least not as bad as other areas.

Re: The UK Economy is doomed…

Its the chocolate theory and i agree. The danger is if people are maxed out on their credit cards. Its a shame so few of the payment handlers take debit cards. If only paypal would see sense.

Re: The UK Economy is doomed…

That is the big issue as we are seeing it here (worldwide). We are getting more failed rebills than ever before and it is due to the credit card issue. If the democrats can fix one thing fast it would be to repair the damage done to our system with the new draconian credit laws. In case you are not aware, minimum payments have jumped way up. If you are late on a payment of a single card, all your card holders can bump your interest rate to as high as 29% and quadruple your minimum payment. They can also cut your credit limit say from 10k down to 4k. If you had a balance on that card over 4k, you are now over limit which will create an accelerated payment as well. As the credit limit on this one card goes down, your credit to debit load ratio goes way down and the other card issuers can use this as justification to protect themselves. At that point they can do some or all of the above. So a lot of people that have been making minimum payments are now screwed totally. These numbers then bash their FICO scores and they no longer are able to qualify for a refinance on their ARM. They have no money left since the mortgage payments are now much larger and it cost $100 to fill up the gas tank.

We have been fucked hard the last 8 years and I see poor people where there used to be average families…it ain’t pretty.

On a side note: While there a industry folks from all over the world here, I believe we can agree that the US is the biggest part of the internet economy and until we get things fixed here, things are not going to be great for cybersales.

Re: The UK Economy is doomed…

thats is very true. forgot about that. yes credit card problems might hit our industry or already has it seems.

Re: The UK Economy is doomed…

For those that missed it, the Chancellor of the UK said we are in the biggest mess for 60 years, it’s going to get worse and it’s going to last a lot longer than anyone expected.

Now, can you remember anyone ever saying things like this in a serving government?

Such statements are unprecedented… and what little confidence may have been left has now surely been swept away.

Re: The UK Economy is doomed…

i have heard government people saying stuff like that when they want to get people worried enough to support measures they wouldn’t ordinarily consider. scare tactics have worked that way here in the u.s., so maybe the uk government people are going to try it to see how it works for them.

Re: The UK Economy is doomed…

I’ve always been weary of the “consumer confidence” stance.

“If people think things are bad, they’ll get bad” Actually no. When people don’t have money to pay their bills, they don’t have the money, even if they’re confident things will get better.

Governments should try being honest with people instead of treating us like cattle that need to be manipulated to hide their incompetence and mistakes.
