The new gTLD 's is this an ICANN a front

To Google’s control of the “search engine”? Your thoughts?

Re: The new gTLD 's is this an ICANN a front

You’re assuming that we all know what the new gTLD is. I’ve been watch NCIS on the couch for the past two weeks, the only thing I know for is is that my back hurts.

Time to take up Zumba honey!
Well the gTLD 's are all the new generic top level domains that are coming out.The list so far is over 1,900.
You can view them here:

And interesting article in the NYT:

Re: The new gTLD 's is this an ICANN a front

one word sums it up… confusion…

next thing that comes to mind is corporations getting their hands on it (again)… third thing… web domains in 2014, sounds like I am still in 1995, there is no way to build a brand with shopfor.personal.beauty or allaboutyour.movie

also isn’t the whole internet going away from shit like that? I mean, Facebook (though I hate it) is the best example of it… or twitter or tumblr even… if u gonna build a brand, engage with audience, make a follower list u don’t’ need a .tld!!! Are we moving away from social networking… even though we barely started with it…

but hey, we don’t have to go very far to see what will happen… anyone remember .xxx ??? I mean that was a massive failure. Nobody gets their porn fix on .xxx

…but these multitrillion dollar companies have gazillions of overflow cash and they can obviously spend it as they like… if McDonalds, Loreal, Unilever etc. are going into tlds then u know it’s the end of an era and things will go downhill…

Kuek Yu-Chuang, ICANN’s vice president “The idea is to promote competition and so that there’s easy access to registries,” he said. Yu-Chuang briefly described the changes that will be introduced because of these new gTLDs, for example, in search engine optimization, algorithms will change as priority given on the basis of gTLDs like .com or .net would be a matter of the past.”
