New & Looking for Affiliates !

Re: New & Looking for Affiliates !
Thank you all for the welcome and advice!

Gaystoryman: If you want to sign up for our newsletter feel free to go to our site and you will see a popup within 30 second of being on the homepage that you can enter your email address to get updates. Yes there are images in there, and if you would like to see some trailers we have sine of them here on xhampster: http://xhamster.com/movies/5897515/boys_on_edge.html
Well, I don’t want to be a KillJoy but that don’t cut it. If you want affiliates to promote your site, you need to provide some basic tools, in an easy and accessible method. Most sponsors provide an email newsletter on a regular basis, that includes the latest release, a brief description, a link to a zip file of promotional images, and a link for a two minute (or so) trailer that affiliates can use to promote your site with.

Going to your site’s affiliate area (such as GayHoopla) is another means, though one tends to forget about sites, when they don’t receive any notice of new updates. Going to a XHamster really only convolutes the process, as does having to sift through “member” notices.

We are ‘salespeople’ and as such need sales tools, so IMO, if you want new affiliates, you should at least make it easy for all affiliates to find and receive your updates.

Sorry, if I sound like a wet blanket, but most affiliates promote a lot of different sites, and without something in our face regularly, well, we just move to the next sponsor.

Just my opinion
Ian

Re: New & Looking for Affiliates !

Asking affiliates to go to XHamster to view your trailers is like telling your McDonald’s customers to go to Burger King to sample their free Hamburgers. I’d advise you talk to people like Ian on here and sign up to some other affiliate programs to get an idea how they work and what affiliates are looking for.

Re: New & Looking for Affiliates !

Welcome to the board!

Re: New & Looking for Affiliates !

Thank you both for the advice. Is there a site or two in particular that you think I should model our affiliate page after to give the best information and marketing tools to our affiliates? I’ll use that as a starting point, but it would be good to know which sites in your opinions’ that are “doing it well”.

I’d like to improve the experience and make it as good as possible for our affiliates.

I have the raw video files for teasers that I could send to anyone interested, but we don’t have them hosted on the server as of now. I could possibly provide a link to download or view it somewhere on our domain, but I’m curious what the proper way to do it would be and a link example would be great for that too!

Thanks again!

Re: New & Looking for Affiliates !

You could take a look at the programs in my Signature as a start.

I think the main thing though is just to provide weekly updates and newsletters for your affiliates in a package they can use. Ideally, this should include a mp4 trailer, embedded video, gallery, photo zip, title, meta data and text description. However, affiliates will forgive you if you can’t provide all of those, I think even just sending the mp4 trailers, photo zips and descriptions would be a good start.

Once your site fills out a bit more I’ll get signed up and be happy to send some traffic your way as well!

Sign up for Gay Hoopla, and check out their affiliate promo page. It has a title with a date the scene is online, followed 9 out of 10 times, with a decent description of the scene. To the right is a zip file for images to download, along with a teaser video link to right click and download.

It is fairly basic, or you can sign up to Spunkworthy, and see how they do a mailer. Again they have a description, with links to download the zip file of images, and a video teaser.

Those are the basics any affiliate needs in order to promote your site. The email newsletter is critical, as it keeps the affiliate aware of your site. Having to go and check an affiliate promo page is doable, but hey we are busy gals and guys too, and sometimes a site slips one’s mind. Hence why I stress email newsletters with the basics.

Stay clear of all the fancy BULL too, because frankly it doesn’t help any of us in promoting your site(s). There is one site that sends out promo newsletters, that tell me how great the site is selling, and why its a huge success but has NO links for NEW content. In fact the site HAS NOT UPDATED affiliate promotional material since fall of 2015. Yet they have two affiliate areas, both are basically USELESS and have to cost the guy, but if there is nothing there, it is a total waste of money and effort.

In other words, BE CONSISTENT with your newsletters, (if its once a month or once a week, just be consistent) and check your links, so we can quickly grab the zip files of images, trailer, and description.

One other note, you don’t need to have verbal diarrhea with the text description, like say Cocky Boys does. A decent paragraph with the details is all we need, really.

I think you should not use a drop menu on join option. List all the join options, instead. I bet lots of visitors don’t even know there is other join options if they don’t click that link.

Re: New & Looking for Affiliates !

Welcome to the forum and best of luck with your site!

Just wanted to mention that when I read the name “Boys On Edge” I immediately thought the site would be in the “edge” handjob niche but with twinks/young guys. The word “edge” is a popular porn term and niche that is usually defined as jacking off a guy slowly and bringing him to the edge of orgasm repeatedly until he can’t take it anymore and blows. Usually the guy is bound in some way to make the edging more intense. Sites that specialize in this include Slow Teasing Handjobs, Chaos Men, Boynapped and Men On Edge.

It looks like your site is NOT in the edge niche so just be aware this may turn off some prospective customers who were expecting it.

That was my impression as well. I think it would turn some people off.

Re: New & Looking for Affiliates !

Good point, I’ll have this changed!

Re: New & Looking for Affiliates !

Thanks for the advice Danny and gaystoryman!

Gayhoopla provides a nice display of content for affiliates. Within a week or so I should have plenty of banner options in all sizes and possibly a gif in each size as well!

I’m also going to be sending an email to our affiliates weekly with a wetransfer link of a package of promotional content from the newest scene (teaser, description, title, screen grabs, date posted, etc).

I’m sorry I have had zero experience with affiliates until about a month ago but I’m willing to learn, improve, and take any feedback as advice!

Thanks again and I’ll post back here as I make progress.

Enjoy your weekend!

Re: New & Looking for Affiliates !

What’s the connection between Boys on Edge and Straight Fraternity?

The 2257 contact is the same for both sites and some of the BOE guys are from SF.

The owner of that site is our Custodian of Records, he has the experience and knows the compliance regulations. He’s very smart, reliable, and easy to work with

Also a heads up to our affiliates that may be on here, we will be sending out an email by Monday next week that consists of a “media kit” that will give you over 30 banner options, some previews, and plenty of photos of recent content!

Re: New & Looking for Affiliates !

Thanks for the explanation, I thought the sites were owned by the same guy, so good to know.

Are you going to be starting regular affiliate mailers?

Yes, today I’ll be sending out the first one, so if you aren’t an affiliate and would like one, sign up for the program now that is in my signature and I’ll add you to my affiliates email list. Also you may sign up for the newsletter as well at the bottom of the homepage (once entered) if you would like a weekly update that our clients get as well.

Re: New & Looking for Affiliates !

Hey Ryan

So I got your email newsletter.

Honestly, I would most respectively suggest you read the posts at the beginning of this thread, as to what should be included in a mailer for promotional use.

One video preview, NO images for promotion other than some Banners. No scene images, to match the preview, and I haven’t looked at the preview video, but somehow given the rest, I doubt I’ll bother.

And honestly, a MS Word document telling us nothing really but what is said on the website. No Details, No Specifics at all.

So once again here is a pretty standard list

 • 15 or so promotional pictures of models, per scene
 • 1 video preview
 • 1 TEXT FILE description of scene that includes model names (first and last)

And really, some download site, that when the file downloads gives me advertising? Uh, geez, if you are friends with the guy at Straight Fraternity, ask him how he does it, because honestly it isn’t all that complicated.

Anyhow, with nothing to promote, hard to try and sell your site

I was thinking the same thing. If he’s using the SF guy for 2257 records you would think he’d ask him for advice about running and promoting a site. The SF promo emails have always been pretty good IMO so all he really has to do is mimic their format.

Hello,

I’m sorry I sent two emails with two download links. The first link is: https://www.wetransfer.com/downloads/b406274e871d4b40a023c9975e8c476020160520200952/e4e9e3bd83ab792845339167c8daa2e520160520200952/06fcf5
the second link is https://we.tl/UtVlhlDZVc and this contains the content you noted for two scenes.

I value everyone’s feedback, and will improve this as time goes on!

Re: New & Looking for Affiliates !

FYI Ryan actually responded to my email, and did correct the issue. Chalk it all up to a “newbie eagerness” and He does seem to genuinely be interested in working with affiliates.

Re: New & Looking for Affiliates !

Ryan, I saw your most recent affiliate mailer. Thanks for listening to affiliates and giving us materials that we can use. I’m doing a blog post right now.

One additional favour? Could you fix your email subscription pop-up so that it doesn’t appear on every single page. I’ve tried saying “no thanks” and I’ve tried subscribing to shut the damned thing off, but the next time I go to another page, there it is.

It’s a sure way to piss off surfers and tank your sales.
