I think majority just have no option that they can implement and are waiting to see what happens.
Well affiliates can wait out a bit more at least when it comes to European AVS like UK or France (unless your located there), the worst what can happen there is 10% of your annual turnover as punishment for noncompliance and a DNS block.
But for the US I am not sure if I would risk this, there is no ceiling there and the US legal system is known to have a long-reaching arm. So if you don’t want to one day get arrested in transit in Canada or Thailand, even as an affiliate I would block or redirect specific US states.
And yes while the tubes like Pornhub go after all these laws, they don’t risk the 10% punishment for the case that they might lose the court case. That’s why Pornhub blocked France (or will doing it very soon) and at the same time they filed a lawsuit.
LOL. I like ’ worst’ thing is a 10% penalty of global turnover. Sounds pretty bad to me…
We turned on our G-rated site for non-verified French traffic as well. We will have to wait and see what impact it may have on joins.
Just wondering when our buddies at Visa and MC are going to infer liability back to the paysite for accepting traffic from unverified affiliate sites or even supplying non-compiant affiliate material. They have already forced us to drop affiliates that have potentially illegal content on the affiliate site…
Well talking about affiliates 10% is not 10% of BA turnover
In the end every company/person needs to decide on themselves what is worth a risk.
And at least for france its actually also up to 1 year in prison (oversaw that).
But hey VPN usage is up for france since pornhub block, so the people are not stupid.
A lot of change happening, impossible to tell what the outcome will be.
I’m working on making my own site compliant, it might actually be better in the end, especially if majority of sites are forced to comply. Less porn easily available. However it really depends yet again on how the larger illegal tube sites are dealt with, if they somehow avoid it all or gets blocked.
I’m hoping for a more level playing field where everyone has to abide by the same rules.
One major issue I found though apart from the age verification is the lack of softcore or compliant promo material.
yeah indeed, it might level the field if the illegal tubes get blocked. At least it would be more difficult for people to get something free.
SFW content is not common, most producers only started like 1-2 years ago to even produce SFW stuff like pictures.
So you’re trying to focus on content that doesn’t require AV or are you implementing AV in some capacity?
There is no financially viable way for a free site to verify age. I mainly do reviews anyway so will focus on that while removing the rest. I never liked showing hardcore content in the first place.
Yeah, that’s fair.
I have a feeling that the fact that AV is just not realistic for most sites is 100% intended.
I’m not so sure about that—I think you’re giving them far too much credit. It’s doubtful they’ve considered the wider impact on different types of sites, let alone understand the distinction between free platforms and affiliate-driven ones. Frankly, they don’t even grasp the technology they’re insisting everyone implement.
Age verification is one of those disruptive shifts that will inevitably break some players. But it could also open doors for others. There will be a rough transition period, no question—but once age verification becomes standard and enforcement (via blocks or other measures) is widespread, we might finally see a more level playing field emerge. One where, perhaps, adult content can thrive again under clearer rules.
I’m cautiously optimistic. We just need to weather the storm and adapt as it unfolds.
