Right now I create collages at 450px wide for the UKScallyLads blog. I've had no complaints from affiliates and from what I've seen, they look good on their blogs when hooking into our RSS Feed.

I've seen pics at a very small size from other sponsors and personally I don't use those feeds or blogs because of the small sizes.

Therefore, I figure between 450px and 500px wide would be a good range to keep within. Would you agree?

Most blogs these days allow for at least that wide, and a lot even wider like on my own personal blogs. However, I don't want to make them too wide so that affiliates have to adjust their blog in order to accomodate our feed so the posts look uniform. Either that or have an affiliate just not use our feed because the pics are too wide. We don't want that.

Thanks for the feedback. FYI, 500px is the widest I will go. Would it be advisable to bump the widths up from 450px to 500px ya think?

Depends on the theme being used. My tube blog uses 675px wide graphics, as does my video review blog.

It's a tough call, but most average themes can't go beyond the 450 to 500 range, so its pretty much a good standard.

my 2 cents

Yes, it depends on the theme being used for sure. That's why I'd like be safer than sorry in this aspect. Even at 450px our blog collages are larger than a lot of other sites' blogs. Eventually I would like to get them a bit wider though. Perhaps creating a poll for affiliates to take part in might be an option.

Thanks for your feedback GSM.

For the My Gay Cash blogs we offer the feeds in two widths - 400 and 640. It takes a little PHP trickery to pull it off, but it works well. If you only offer one width someone won't be happy...

I'm right in that range, 450 to 500. I decided on that based on checking out a lot of sites, sort of like the mama bear thing, not too big and not too small.

Yes I agree. It's better to be safe than sorry. 450px is wide enough to offer a decent size collage and yet not too wide to make someone's blog look like crap.

Thanks for the feedback tim.

My pleasure! Yeah, at least that's what I felt. Other reasons why I chose 500 are:
- makes an impressive vertical pic
- there's enough width to make a good horizontal pic
- it's wide enough to put two smaller verticals side by side and still look OK
- the "phenomenon" below

Since I haven't yet published the blogs I'm working on, you have more experience (I have none) about what really monetizes. But I've made some interesting observations after looking at tons of sites for clues. Kind of funny but noteworthy. The larger the pic (if it doesn't lose quality), the hotter it is to the point where the oversize ones frequently made me feel like getting off then and there, forget checking any sponsor sites - got what I need for the moment. I'm sure other people must feel similarly or at least some.
