I was wondering what the little rating thing does, if anything. Do higher scored threads show up higher in search results? Or is this just a neat but useless feature?

They don't get ranked any higher. It's for voting whether a thread has been useful to you or not. It is, of course, open to abuse... but don't abuse it without expecting a spanking ;)

Stars are fluff. 1 star everything! Next will be user karma, more fluff, and that too is 1 star worthy.

I gave this 1 star btw. No JK, I honestly did. As I did with all the other threads on here with stars.

J/K. I don't get the stars, IMO they are just dumb and no one uses them.

Ppl use them. But they use them like a marketing tool to make the clueless think a thread/topic has more credibility than others because it has more stars. When, in reality, they are applied by the person whom made the post. IE: " PS. I just rated this thread "excellent". FYI. " as a reply to his OWN thread.

Also, Note how the threads on sticky POSTED BY BJORN had 5 stars. It's "FLUFF"
