Just wondering and this might seem a bit odd since i got a blog.. but how well does blogs actually sell? Are conversion fairly good or are they like TGP where it requires a lot of traffic for a single sale?

The way i structured my blog works differently where blogs are linked to reviews, which also means its very difficult for me to see if the blog persuaded a visitor to buy a membership or the review did.

Think that I was going to ask something similar. How much time does blog take to be profitable?

To be honest I had my worst ratio with blog traffic, 0:4800 or so. Blogs push too much traffic to paysite and that's really fishy in my opinion. Maybe 80% of this traffic are spiders :(

it depends on what you do with your blogs. You can build mass amounts of splogs (spam blogs) and use RSS feeders with the same old topbucks content that everyone else has and get really poor conversions, or you can build something worth reading and bookmarking which gains loyalty and revenue. Both have their place in today's web.

I'm totally with you on the 2 different types of blogs.

But does a blog with loyal bookmarkers equal good sales vs hits ratio?

Isnt many blogs a destination in its own right, i.e. they stay there and dont go to a advertised site.

blogs can sell very well depending on how they're written. i guess while a blog can be a destination in its own right, a particular blog in your blogs is also going to grab search engine terms like "gay bears anal" that could easily be someone looking for a paysite. or if you write the blog with sales in mind, which would be different than writing a blog just for entertainment, it would be easy to entertain readers and then send them to the paysite.

I had been wondering this myself.I now have over 30+ blogs going and I update them regularly, but haven't seen any big bucks from them yet.I keep hearing people say that you can do really well with them though, so maybe it just takes time to pull the (paying) vistors in. ;)

since you have 30 blogs updated regularly, are you seeing at least 1 sale per day from your blog network?

Unfortunately not yet, but most of them are still pretty new so I am still hopeful.;)

2 things worth mentioning on http://www.adultnicheblogs.com/collegeboysblog/

1. your blogs are very slow to answer.

2. there's nothing to click in each blog except the pic. you don't mention the name of the site and link it, you don't recommend they go to the site. you'll send a lot more traffic if you have an underlined link to the site in each and every blog. and that works the same for any kind of marketing. even better if you want to send traffic would be a reason to go to the site, but at least include the site name or star and link it.

Thanks for the tips and do you mean on 1. that the page is loading slow.Because I have been thinking about taking the cam affiliate links down because they seem to be messing with the page loads.

What do you guys consider "good"? I know what my stats are, and I know the overall revenue is getting better, but I don't really have anything to compare my progress to. If I lived in the middle of bum-fuck-nowhere I might be able to live (very frugally) off my blog right now. But I live in Manhattan, so to me it's not all that much money. I can get a lot more money doing stuff for corporate clients...

In my (limited) experience a lot of it has to do with the sites you promote and how you promote them. If you put effort into the wrong sites you just won't see much of a return on your efforts...

Here are some of my ratios - some I consider good, others are pretty aweful... [I like the cents/click ratio since it takes into consideration things like trial memberships and rebills.]

BarebackThatHole (http://www.barebackthathole.com/visitor.php?idWebMaster=1196801495&idBanner=579&SpecialProgram=0&type=linktext) - 1:173 or 13.6 cents/click (they include rebills as sales in their ratios)
CumIntoMyAss (http://in.CumIntoMyAss.com/track/OTA4OjI6Ng/) - 1:148 or 18.7 cents/click
HotBarebacking (http://gunzblazing.com/hit.php?w=101203&s=16&p=2&c=&t=0&cs=) - 1:277 or 14.0 cents/click

These sorta sell (there's a lot that fall into this category)...

HighDefBarebacking (http://aff.pythonpays.com/hit.php?s=13&p=2&w=100216&t=0&c=&cs=0) - 1:849 or 3.0 cents/click
BestBareback (http://www2.bestbareback.com/track/MTMxMDozOjY/?tour=tour2) - 1:461 or 5.2 cents/click
RealSpermSwap (http://join.realspermswap.com/track/NTI2MDA6MTY6NDI/) - 1:621 or 2.8 cents/click
RawEntryClub (http://refer.rawentryclub.com/track/NjMzOjM6Ng/) - 1:1119 or 1.4 cents/click

And these I've had zero sales on...

NoCondomZone (http://secure.nocondomzone.com/track/MTc4OjI6MQ/) after 1141 unique clicks
SwappingCummrades (http://secure.cummrades.com/track/MTc4OjI6OA/) after 859 unique clicks
BarebackWay (http://tour.barebackway.com/track/MTAwMjk5Ojc6NA/) after 1487 unique clicks

There's so much that goes into whether something sells well or not - unique content, the quality of the performers (in my niche that often means pigginess, not beauty), the amount and quality of promo materials available, etc...

So I'm curious... What do you guys consider to be "good"?

just browsing http://www.adultnicheblogs.com/muscleblog/
and notice that the pics on the blog are pretty repetitious. for example, all 4 pics on Smooth Sexy Stud are almost the same position and facial expression. same with 3 out of 4 on Hot Bar Stud. variety in each blog will help keep interest.

also you don't seem to be promoting muscle guys and muscle sites on your blog - the text is mostly basic gay text. a muscle site should make better sales promoting bodybuilders and muscle sites, doncha think? ;)

Yes I see what your saying and I am in hopes of getting more links up soon.I have been crazy busy working with my other adult websites lately and sadly have been neglecting the blogs. :whip: I really appreciate the tips though and I will have to check out your sig. for some more muscle studs.:)

Guccy, maybe its time to offer your bookmarkers and regular surfers some new paysite upsells? Or maybe if you get more link exchanges you can get some fresh traffic.

Very interesting stats! Thanks for sharing that.

The first lot of sites are quite good ratios, much what you would see on a Review or Directory site with normal listings, ie no banners.

The others are typical stats for not so great sites, and probably depends a lot on the tours, how over promoted the sites are etc.

However the stats looks very suspisiously related to the sites rather the type of blog traffic.

Otherwise ignoring that, it then looks like that blog traffic can be much like any normal link list / directory traffic. But then do blogs get as big as link lists? I know they can but maybe more rarely?

I do think its a bit slow actually, maybe thats affecting it. Could you not archive it in some way so you only show the first 20 posts or something?

Also, isnt there other types of videos available. When I visit the site, it stops and says "connecting.. please wait" on the videos. I didnt stay on there long enough to take the time but it seems very slow. Would it not make more sense to use Flash clips that doesnt load everything?

What's considered a good amount of traffic for a gay sex blog? And what's the typical ratio of direct/organic/referrals?

gaydemon
04-11-2008, 07:25 AM
I really dont know to be honest, in my case the gaydemon blog only counts for 14% of all page views.

But I've seen some rare cases where blogs come up in my "top referal" list on Google analytics. Not very often or many that do. But if they do that means they have a lot of traffic.

With my other site, Bestmaleblogs.com (http://www.bestmaleblogs.com) which isnt a blog but its about blogs and links to blogs, it gets around 10.000 Unique hits per day, so there certainly seems to be blog traffic to be had.
