Are comments pointless?

I'm just about to switch comments off on GayDemon's Porn Blog (http://www.gaydemon.com/blogs/) and wondering if there any real reason to accept comments?

I do get some, but not many. Definitly not each blog post gets one, so its quite random leaving many blogs saying "0 comments".

The comments I get are often pointless, like "wow thats hot!" or worse "i want to fuck, email me". Few are any longer than that.

Spam comments are not too bad since i use some very good filters. The main reason I have to go and check comments are that there is often some nasty ones (rasist, homofobic etc).

So why keep the blogs open to comments at all?

I disable all comments for blog entries. They are mostly just used to spam, and surfers, unless you run a life-story site, are not interested in text, they just want porn, the less text, the better. :)

comments are actually good for SEO, but with all the spam it may just be best to write them yourself!

My thought as well. I can't see a comment or two on a porn blog making any different to porn surfers.

Well comments really depend on alot of things but most activly what you are trying to do with your blog...

The first page you mentioned I found specially helpful. A lot of the commenters feels you should have comments on. BUT the reasons they give are all great but doesn't really fit into a adult blog.

For a normal mainstream site it makes sense to have comments switched on, people add information or reply to you in regards to whatever it is you posted about. Adult blogs however, I've yet to see any comments that are of much help or that is informative.

The only ones I like and gives me a warm fuzzy feeling is people saying "thanks for the link to my site".. But those are few.
