i was reviewing a site using zombaio and i found this certificate and removed the site name, just in case. those are some bold claims. do you think they make the surfers feel any better?

Can't see it hurting them, it's a nice little PR trick. Legally it probably means absolutly nothing, but using word certificate and making look like they (zombaio) have done makes it feel very proper.
I keep wanting to call them zombies..

i must disagree, basschick, about the boldness of the claims. in my reading of the certificate, zombie corp, is just putting into writing what epoch and ccbill already require.
i think it is a clever marketing ploy that would reassure more naive surfers. if i were one of those naifs i think i'd feel 'safer'

Why not just get a EV SSL certificate? An EV cert shows up very clearly in the standard browsers in a way that surfers are used to seeing...

I dunno. I mean anybody can photoshop a certification. I think it might have a certain effect on the sales but personally...I would like numbers!

That's sorta my point in suggesting an EV cert. That can't be faked.

It's an Extended Validation certificate. They've been the big thing in SSL certificates for the last couple years. If you use recent versions of IE or Firefox you'll see the name of the organization up by the URL (at least that's how Firefox works - I think IE turns the whole URL area light green). To see it in action check out this URL...

EV certs are expensive compared to regular SSL certificates because you have to jump through hoops to prove who you are because the whole point of them is that if you see one you know without a shadow of a doubt who you're doing business with.

"EV certs are expensive" <-- I think that's the main reason people that use zombaio don't get those, cuz zombaio is aimed at the cheap (and prolly a bit dodgy) crowd.

What Zombio is doing is trying to make the surfer feel better about their membership, not really do what an EV cert would or an SSL for that matter. When a surfer hits the join page a site should try and make the surfer feel comfortable.
