Who do you use for hosting your websites? I use godaddy and find that my sites are down almost daily. Not good, though it is cheap. What are the alternatives, any recommendations?

For cheap dedicated from $79 a month, check out Hosthead. I found them to be really reliable. Its a very old server that you get but it did me perfectly until I needed to upgrade to something more modern.

I like NatNet as well. A little pricey, but the service is top notch.

Not godaddy...they are horrible!!! Get a real host, one that knows the adult industry and hosts a variety of large adult sites. After all, if your hosting is down, you have no way of actually earning your living.
(btw, not sure if you know but I run ChiliHost which is a NationalNet partner company)

Hosthead will also match deals Basschick. I emailed their sales address and said I wanted to give them the chance to keep me, and they matched the better deal Id seen. Well worth knowing that, its always nice to get more for less lol

Folks,
GoDaddy is f*ckin great for domain names, but lousy for dedicated hosting unless you know ALL THERE IS TO KNOW about servers. They don't allow adult content on shared servers, but if you have a personal site they have great rates.
OCC Hosting is great for shared plans - great customer service for your $13 or $30 per month, reliable servers, and no issues with percent of server or hits per day.
I'm exploring www.hosthead.com as we speak... But I tend to favor http://adult.occhosting.com - especially their dedicated base for $119/month w/$99 setup. I've had fabulous results with these folks, and I like "indy" companies.
Y'all name some other outfits which have good dedicated plans!

Of course, my opinions are based on the "post Luke at ChiliHost" world we live in...
LOL!

what makes you think hosthead isn't an indie company? brad - the owner - was a webmaster way back in the day, and a really good community member in the late 90s/early 2000s. after many host horror stories, he started his own hosting company. while it's grown and grown - good service will do that to any company - it's still not a huge corporate place. you can talk to brad (twintone) direct, and his admins and techs are very cool.

Whoa, cool down a bit... Never said that www.hosthead.com wasn't an indy company.
If I implied that, I certainly didn't mean to. I simply vouched for my experience with a different company, that's all.

Still luv ya...

I use ChiliHost / Nat Net, but if you've been using GoDaddy they may be on the expensive side for you. Try Velcom, I used them when I first started in the biz and they were reasonable and reliable.

Hello Ray,
I just wanted to add a little about myself, and hosthead.com. I started in the adult biz in 1995, so I have indeed seen it all. In 2001 I was working as a data security analyst for a major power company, and still doing adult sites on the said. I was so fed up with the incredibly poor support I was getting from every host I was with that I decided I can do far better, and thus started North Tone Systems, LLC.
7 years later here we are, and it has been a hell of a ride. We are still as indie as we were when we started, and I wouldn't want it any other way. We own every piece of gear we use to operate our company, so we are not a reseller of some other service. This helps in the fact that we are able to be extremely flexible with our customer’s needs, and custom machine builds etc.
I would love to have an opportunity to speak with you about your current needs, and what we can do for you.
On a side note, we are currently having our site re-designed, and have an all new pricing structure ready to launch with the site. I would be happy to offer you our new pricing before the launch if you interested.
Feel free to contact me anytime at twintone@hosthead.com or ICQ 31353073
If you would like to give me a call, feel freel to do that toll free 888-282-7112 M-F 8AM to 5PM CST
Thanks,
Brad

I am using a good canadian host: http://rackforce.com
They are on the same backbone as this Board is on...and my ISP. Nice and fast...reliable.
I manage a few servers at that location. Ones that are not my own as well.

Hey Brad, great to see you hear. Hope you stick around!
Good choice Junior, Ive been totally happy with Hosthead. I actually took their $79 server and figured it would be ok for a few months, but I decided to stick with them in the end because they are reliable, friendly and give good support. The $79 server is a bargain for people wanting their first server, but as grew I wanted to upgrade. Served me well though!

I gotta say, i've been with several hosting companies in the 10 years I've been in this biz...and Nat Net (originally setup with Luke at Chilihost) has been the best for us by far. I have no experience with the other hosts mentioned in this thread, but I have never experienced better hosting support than that of Nat Net.
May I also suggest that you don't go with only one host...for a variety of reasons...
1. SEO value is better if you spread your sites around.
2. Get more than one server account! Safety of your sites and data is better if you have mirror server accounts on different hosts and at a minimum different servers. Down time can be extremely costly, not only for the time you are down, but even when you come back up again, getting your sites back to pre crash speed and traffic.

This may or may not be a valid point. but I will say that I still have some virtual accounts under a private reg that I use to jump start domains. It seems to be working, so I haven't changed it. Even though some SEO guys it makes no difference.
Yes, I know Google is a registrar, but registrars don't have info that is on a private reg.

We have one server at http://www.nationalnet.com/ from Luke. They are GREAT, AMAZING, THE BEST AND WE LOVE THEM! Never really a problem and when there is one.. they handle it quickly. Great customer service and always a positive attitude when dealing with staff. I would recommend them for your main site servers. They are very stable.
We have 2 servers at http://alphared.com/ We use them for our marketing and email servers. They have been good. A little more difficult to work with as far as customer service. So you kind of need to know what your doing with your machines. But the pricing is great. Most importantly for us. They allow us to do email marketing. They are a little looser with the complaints. Not that we get that many. but if you get one or two with Natnet. They come down a little harder on ya.
We have 2 servers at http://www.apthost.com/ AMAZING customer service. They are basically plug and play. if you dont know.. just ask and they will do it for you.
If you have any questions... ICQ me!
David
we moved to NationalNet about a month ago and I can tell you I have never been happier with a host. The speed is great and the tech support is nothing short of amazing.
