With the latest & greatest out now, and the so called maintenance version about to be released, I came across this nice article on some config tricks to help make one's wordpress install a bit more secure, and also to make wordpress a less of a hog on the server resources.

Haven't used them yet, though am going to try a few of the tips in my next install, which should be later this week. Course, soon as I figure out all that techie jargon, maybe I'll understand it more, but hey, I am blond lol
