View Full Version : Are people losing interest in blogs?

I've never been a huge fan of blogs, but there are few I read/scroll through regularly... so I noticed that in comparison with few years ago - 2007, even 2008 - there are less and less comments posted on most of the blogs that I visit, be it adult or mainstream.
For example in 2007 Queerclick had 8-16 comments to every post they made, nowdays it's 0 or 4 on average... then Perez Hilton had 1000s of comments next to his posts in 2007, nowdays 300-400 ...
I am not saying that blogs are losing traffic, just wondering why is it that the number of surfer comments has so drastically decreased?
On the other hand there are hundreds of comments on tube sites next to every video....

Meh.. Maybe people just don't post comments as much. Maybe there are so many that people just read other ones?
I sure haven't seen any slowdown in traffic on my blog.

No blogs are as big as ever, if not bigger.
I just don't think people like to comment. I've never had much comments on Gaydemon's Blog (http://www.gaydemon.com/blogs/) (maybe a couple each day at most.), but I know there are large amounts of loyal readers and subscribers so its not that there isnt any people reading the blog.
There are however HUGE amounts of spam, if your blog software hasnt got a good spam filter chances are that it takes forever to sort out the real comments from spam. On gaydemon alone i get 100-200 spam comments per day.
I've found its very difficult to get surfers to interact, the more thats required from them the less chance you will get anything.

1. As I said, I don't think that blog traffic had decreased.
2. I still don't understand why people were interacting 2-3 years ago more actively than last year?
Just a guess ... those who want to talk, go to facebook, twitter, etc instead of trying to chase down a conversation on a porn blog.

There was a post in the NYT the other day - "Blogs Falling In an Empty Forest"
Mostly about straight blogs, but an interesting read. Link below.

Well the way I see it, most probably have one hand on their cock and the other on their mouse. Some may not want to let go of either in order to type. lol At least, I hope that's the way a lot of people surf our porn blogs. I just like it when they click on that prompt link and fill out the forms on the Join Pages.
Considering people are commenting less on blogs, what do you think about having a blog that doesn't allow comments? Would that/do they fair well (traffic and conversion)?

@ Tim, I don't allow comments on my porn blogs, and they sure do make sales!

I think I allow comments on 2 of mine ... the rest I don't. They convert just fine.

I concur, blogs are here to stay, even for mainstream media. Look at the NYTimes.com or the Economist.com...packed full of embedded blogs and comments. I think surfers are coming to expect a level of interaction native to blog format, even if its not called a "blog".
