This picture was taken today from the block where my mother lives. My sister lives just a few blocks over. Damaged a shopping center just down the street. Yikes!

I will raise you one....

Here is my sisters house...just north of Denver.

She was not home, and everyone (dogs included are ok.)

My Mom was in a tornado as a kid - completely destroyed the house next to hers. Needless to say she was paranoid about them and every time there was a major storm with black clouds we were in the basement...

Seth ... what an awesome picture. I love tornadoes, I'm totally fascinated with them, and at the same time, they're so destructive and bring so much heart ache. And that photo is just so close. I'm glad everyone's okay.

I'm scared to death of tornadoes. We have them quite often here in Florida, but none nearly as large as those out in the mid-western states. Hurricanes are enough to deal with, but at least we generally can see them coming with plenty of advanced warning.

Yoikes!! Scary shit.

I remember as a kid living in Michigan a tornado struck my school and destroyed 1/2 of it ... a block away.

TropixxxMichael, glad they're ok. That's terrible that her house was hit like that. I guess there were 5 that touched down in or near the metro area.

This is my first Spring back after living away for four years. I kind of forgot how scary the Spring & Summer storms can be here after being in places with fairly consistent weather.

What scares me more than tornadoes is the lightning. Seems like we're surrounded by it many afternoons.

I wonder if a lot of us Canadians are fascinated by Tornadoes. I too have a curious wonderment for these highly destructive entities.

VERY glad everyone is ok Seth and others who have survived through these most incredible natural phenomenons.

I was in Edmonton Alberta when an F5 went through there in 1987. My friend's wife was hurt quite badly and still suffers today from serious back injuries. She was flown some 1000 yards and woke up a mess. Such a nice lady too. She lived though and that's what she's thankful for each day. I couldn't believe this thing when I saw it. Some 2 miles or more in diameter and the damage caused was indescribable. I'm sure I'll never see anything like it again. I was a good 20 miles away from it too. Not that far when you think about the fact that it was more than 2 miles around itself. Damn!

Tornadoes are finding their way further and further north all the time. Most people don't know this, but an average of 180 tornadoes hit Canada every year. Most go unreported though as they're in remote areas.

I don't think I would want to reside in tornado alley in the US. They sure do a lot of damage and seeing as how many go through there each year, the chances of one hitting you are pretty high.

SoCal would be the place for me. I'll stick to the West Coast.;)

That reminds me... when does the new season of Discovery Channel's "Storm Chasers" start? I love that show.

Thanks. Yeah, spring storms can get rather violent. I actually kind of like them (minus the tornados and hail). Lightning really bothers me too, but I always thought that was the sailor in me not wanting to be caught out on the ocean in a storm.
