View Full Version : Tube Sites: Can they be profitable?

Pretty much every traffic generation method in the adult business has a formula or mix of products, or methods of traffic control that make them profitable.
In the earlier thread the question was posed, "Do Tube sites make money"?
The general consensus was that current monetization of existing tube sites is either missing, inadequate or simply a hodge podge of marketing efforts without too much strategy and planning involved.
So, this to me begs the question. If you owned a tube site, what would you do to make it profitable? How would you do things differently than say Xtube or YouTube or any of the other tube sites out there to make a tube site more profitable?

i would target my advertising like crazy, for one thing. that's what makes pretty much anything more profitable. most porn tube sites just go "okay, gay video - gay ad" or "straight video - straight ad". fuck that! i'd also link the videos to the sponsors. but most important would be tweaking the ads, i suspect. you never really know in a new marketing situation what will work till you try.

I totally agree with the targeted ad approach. It's one of my criticisms of the way Xtube monetizes their site. I think though that many of these tube sites springing up are doing so with an off the shelf set of scripts that may not support category level ad delivery. Xtube has their own programmers so I don't think they have any excuse beyond either apathy, laziness or marketing ineptness for the reason they do their run of the site type ads.

Geo ip the bad traffic. Tube sites can be very profitable, though many times not for the tube site owner. The watermarks get a ton of type ins to the paysites.

yup. if I was to open a tube, the "shit" countries would be geo-ip redirected to a password by phone site or something

How about limiting the amount of videos that can be viewed in a day? I think someone is already doing this, maybe megarotic, but I'm not sure.
At least you don't blow bandwidth/server resources and the ones that clearly aren't going to purchase anything

This model I am not the biggest fan of if the tube site charges for additional downloads. There is just something that rubs me the wrong way when tube sites charge $25 a month to view sponsor or stolen content. If enough did that we would have surfers joining 3 or 4 tubes sites a month and not paysites. Maybe I am wrong.

My POV was from a 'tube site owner' with legit video samples, links to sponsors per each video, etc. Not the current tube site model where you can find 20+ min videos. In this case limiting views or downloads would promote sales or at least limit costs
Maybe more like a TGP owner switching to a tube site instead as a means to promote/sell/generate traffic. Maybe after they've seen 5-10 video clips send them to another site... just my 2c
I guess megarotic is in the 'stolen content' model but I was just using them as an example on limiting views/downloads

Ahhh. Makes sense now. Tube sites have the traffic to do that.

I think the tubesite owner should post sponsor videos that have the owner's affiliate link to the paysite...don't those sell like crazy?

They do sell well actually, as long as the video is edited right.
