I'm just curious, whats the average bandwidth or download usage per user on your Tube sites? 20, 40, 80, 150 meg??

I'm curious to know as well. We have so many tube site owners here that could give valuable input.

the only tube owners i know run straight tube sites, and they don't give a lot of specifics. the most useful thing i've heard is the average surfer watches 10 videos per day - if correct, you can figure from there. some say to start with 10 Mbps but if you get traffic to expect it to grow from there. i've heard 100 Mbps from a couple, but those guys have a lot of traffic. the rest say "not that much" when i asked, but didn't give a number.

150 meg is on the low end.

This is what my host tech said on another board:
"100k/day of "good" quality traffic (he's referring to surfers) with normal tube hosting will probably rock you for 600(mbit)-1.2Gbps depending on length and quality of clips. And this is with RTMP, using lighttpd/whatever double the numbers."
On my current hosting plan that would mean about 7k$/month for hosting a tube which has only 100k uniques per day.

I didn't realize that using streaming had that much in savings. lighttpd is what Youtube uses.

That's what he says at least and usually he knows pretty well what he's talking about :)

Now that i think about it, I see how it's possible. I guess if a surfer is on a fast connection, goes to a flash video, watches 30 seconds of a 2 minute movie, then hits the back button, he has probably downloaded the whole movie without even watching 1/4 of the movie. It makes sense.
