I noticed sites like QueerClick and others that link to other peoples blog posts but use there own wording. When doing this should they have to get the other blog owners permission even if they don't use any of the other blogs wording?

If they use their own wording and just provide you with a link, sounds like a great deal to me. I hereby give my express permission to anyone and everyone to deep link into any of my blogs ;) Actually, even if they use some of your text and acknowledge the source that's cool too, IMO. As long as you have your RSS feed on, I don't think they need your permission to do that.

My thought on this is that it's best not to simply copy someone else's blog post, but to comment on it and offer a link. Or sometimes we excerpt part of an entry and then offer our own commentary on it. The purpose is to retain our own identity. We recently entered into a "syndication deal" with TheSword.com, but rather than just reprint their entries, we offer a link and comment on it accordingly. I think readers go to specific blogs because they expect a certain kind of tone and personality. I think it's best to retain your own identity, even when referring to others' posts.

You got any example? I've always thought that was a bad idea to do, at least in SEO terms (unless its sufficiently different from the original).

Well what I was speaking of was pages like the Queer Click Sticky page http://sticky.queerclick.com/.
I'm not saying that they are doing anything wrong at all. I was just wondering if linking to other blog posts was something that was taken well by the original writer of the post.

That would fall under fair use. The only problem I see is documentation when the model is naked...

Yeah its a really though one. I don't mind if someone would qoute a sentence from me and link back to the original. But I would be very pissed off if someone grabbed the whole blog post and didnt even link back.
What queerclick does on that page looks innocent to me and can't see any harm in it.
What i would LOVE to know is how they done it. Do they manually add those posts / images or?

This is actually a good way for smaller blogs to build some Google juice. :)

QC Sticky items are being submitted by the blog owners themselves.

Really? I see.. mmm interesting. Thats the thing, if you got a big enough site with a lot of visitors its easier to get user generated content to do a lot of stuff for you. But its such a pain getting people to interact.
