i'm a big fan of programs that offer more than one tour per site. there are getting to be less of them, but they're a good thing to me. why? because when i seem to have burned out one tour with a site that retains well or that i like the pps i get, i have a second tour to try - and usually sales go back up when changing to the new tour. multiple tours allows me to continue to promote a site and still keep things fresh for my surfers.
on the other hand, i can see where if you're promoting a site and want to brand it for your bookmarkers, using the same tour would be better.

I always ask which tours converts best. Then I wonder why they dont just use the tour that converts the best. I guess if its a multi niche mega site, different tours will work for different niched traffic but a twink site is a twink site, or am missing something?

the thing is that it's always a question of what tour converts best for you. i promote several programs where their best-converting tours aren't mine - so always best to test.
you are missing something ;)
appearance can make a HUGE difference in joins for the same niche and even the same site. i've worked with clients whose site went from 1:1500 to 1:300 by changing their tours but we're talking about not only the same niche but the same site.
regarding sites i currently promote, there's one site i promote that currently is converting for me at 1:211 and another with not only the same niche and type of content and models, but actually some of the same models that converts at 1:857 as of right now. both sites are exclusive and are close to the same size.

LOL I figured I would be.
I guess Ill have to do more testing then. I usually just ask the sponsor which tour works best and go for that.

look at it this way - their best converting tour works best for OVERALL traffic including large amounts of non-gay-specific traffic, blind link traffic, etc. it may work the best for you, but if you test all the tours, you could make a lot more money. after all, you're probably not sending str8 traffic or popup traffic, so there can be a difference.

One of the things I think a lot of people miss is that no two affiliates have the same traffic. So if you have a fabulous tour and an OK tour, the fabulous one will probably always do slightly better.
But if there are tours that are thoughtfully put together to appeal to slightly different audiences... maybe highlighting different guys, focusing on different action shots, etc., you might see dramatic differences with your particular traffic, depending on where your traffic is coming from and what sort of thing appeals to those surfers.
Also, as Patti said, even the best tour gets stale. That's why supermarkets insist on completely rearranging the store every so often... sales always go up because people find new things. Same with tours... if your traffic has seen a given tour for quite a while, just showing them a different tour will cause a bump, and some surfers will think it's a completely new site and join just to try it out.

I hardly ever bother with differnet tours. I always go for the normal front page tour, whatever a visitor would see if they type in the URL.
Some programs makes the whole "create link" process over complicated with 20 different drop down boxes and options.. because of that I've mostly stopped even looking at the different options.

oh is my face red
It makes sense to use different tours, and you know, I never really ever looked in the webmaster area for that, now maybe the sponsors I used never had different tours, or I am just too old and blind, but I never seen such a feature... wish I did, because I kind of like the idea of using different tours, specially if I have been pushing one site for any length of time.
Now I gotta go on a treasure hunt, :bang:

This sort of depends on how easy it is to send traffic to a specific tour page...
As a freesite builder, I absolultey HATE the way focused tour links work with CCBill.

Aside from that, it's useful. Not everyone has a saleable bod or face - and being able to direct traffic based on that helps.

Yes, I love having 2 or 3 tours to choose from.

So how many sponsors offer multiple tours to link to, in your opinion? I mean do most, some, a few? Rough guess? Any sponsors that really go the max in providing multiple tours?
