I know how we all like a bit of drama.. so I thought this from AVN was quite interesting.

Which leads me too..

It does question and highlight something I encounter now and then as an affiliate. Reps often go from one site to another, while doing so sometimes claiming the new site they work for is far better than the last one.

Personally I prefer the more honest approach (for example as Mary did recently), simply saying that the contract is now at an end and its time to move on. To me thats more believable and gives me more faith in the person saying it than other explenations about the new site or product.

So do you think its the new company asking Reps to say "bad" things about their last employer OR is it just a marketting thing Reps do on their own accord?

Dear Friends,

As you may have heard, XXXXX has left AVN and begun employment with XBIZ.

While we wish her the best in her new position, I must take issue with information that XXXXX is sending to people in the industry. She says, "XBIZ has the same reach (as AVN) for less." I believe this statement is patently false.

Attached, please see our audited circulation statement (http://maillist.avn.com/C/4447/1138/13), which proves AVN's circulation of over 18,000 qualified B2B readers per month. During her employment with AVN, XXXXX herself has pointed out our audited circulation figures, compared with XBIZ and their lack of an audited circulation. I strongly urge you to ask XXXXX for comparative circulation data before you accept a sales pitch based on false information.

For over 26 years, AVN has worked diligently to provide retailers, chain stores, adult book stores, wholesale distributors, VOD companies, foreign sales brokers, cable operators the most objective reviews, legal information and marketing information available, while spending the proper time, money and skill to qualify our readers. We know that AVN gets into the hands of those people making the buying decisions, which affects your bottom line.

While I am calling most of you individually, I want to let you know that I will be taking over XXXXX's duties and handling most of sales for AVN myself. This way, I can speak to all of you on a regular basis, assess your needs and help you with marketing plans that are not only the most effective for you, but also the most cost-effective as well.

I believe noone should talk bad about the hand who has feed them. It's not professional to talk bad about your former boss and it gives you a bad reputation.

No matter what the reason of leaving might be, just be professional!

If you want to compare yourself to a competitor, it has to be done objectively with facts that show pros and cons. Anything else makes the rep look bad. In my corporate life, it used to happen a lot and I did not care because bashing your opponent only hurts you in the end and makes the one you bash even stronger. Now if the one getting bashed falls for it and retaliate then both look silly.

Reps shouldn't say "bad" things about previous employers, but...

They both look bad on this one. Not really sure if you can compare an affiliate rep to a sales position for a magazine. I am sure that Xbiz tells all sales associates that they have a bigger reach for less money. Is there any magazine that doesn't say that?

As far as I'm concerned, whatever happened between the Rep and the Sponsor is a private matter, unless.....the problem will affect affiliates in some way, or there are legal matters which may affect others. Otherwise, it's really none of anyone else's business what happens/happened behind closed doors. That's my opinion on that.

As far as the new company asking the new Rep to speak ill of their former employer - if it was me - I'd quit with them as well. Pocoloco is right that one should never bite the hand that feeds you. Again...unless there are circumstances which might lead to others being hurt. Be it financially or otherwise.

If it's a marketing ploy on the Rep's part? I'm not dealing with them that's for sure.
