Today I got 3 MSN's from him asking me to check out a link. Like an idiot I clicked one. Can a virus do this? They goto "harmful" pages.

yes they can
Ok. Just got another one from him. Strange. He's on a Mac and when I got the first one his laptop was off. This is strange.

Im sure its been asked b4, but what is the point of these viruses:bang:
You will notice the number of virus and silly scripts reported going up over the next couple of weeks as the script kiddies get out of school and start half tearm holidays.
They have nothing better to do so keep all your virus software and scripts on servers upto date.

I don't use msn. But in aim it does that. My bf did it multiple times by clicking strange links in messages from friends in his list. As soon as he clicked it, it would send the message and link to everyone in his list. Then it repeats when you login again. No fun to get rid of.

I don't let the wife have my ICQ or MSN or Gtalk or any of them.. hard enough to get his attention without adding all those message programs & email thingees.
I really don't get the virus nonsense either, it is annoying as hell though

This one goes to a page that asks me to enter my MSN login. What a pain in the ass.
Well, now I have a reason to block him. :)

The main purpose of the virii and trojans and so forth are to infect your computer so it can be used as a spambot. There are millions of computers in various spambot networks, and those are the source of about 90% of the spam we receive each day.
So the more computers they infect, the more people they can spam.
