"Republican politicians on Thursday called for a sweeping new federal law that would require all Internet providers and operators of millions of Wi-Fi access points, even hotels, local coffee shops, and home users, to keep records about users for two years to aid police investigations."

That sounds pretty fucked up to me!

Thats a huge amount of records and data to save.. To be honest I kind of thought hotels already did keep records.

I would think the courts would have a few objections to this, wouldnt that be un-constitutional?

As long as you add "To save the children" you could pass a bill to drill for oil in the rain forest.
As long as you add "To save the children" you could pass a bill to drill for oil in the rain forest.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Seems like every time someone wants to pass a bill involving the internet they say it is to protect children from pedophiles and pornographers.
When are they going to pass an IQ above 90 and a stable job before you can breed law? NEVER
You would think that with 2 wars, Korea and Iran going nuclear, Pakistan harboring the Taliban, a domestic economy in the dumps, global financial melt down, a trillion dollar debt, 2 million US children without health coverage, 15% illiteracy, AIDS and cholera epidemic in Africa, world wide malaria epidemic, global warming, an energy crises, corrupt local and federal politicians, etc. that our elected representatives would have bigger/better things to worry about and debate.

"Keeping our children safe requires cooperation on the local, state, federal, and family level."
"Two bills have been introduced so far--S.436 in the Senate and H.R.1076 in the House. Each of the companion bills is titled "Internet Stopping Adults Facilitating the Exploitation of Today's Youth Act," or Internet Safety Act."
Just more right wing political dogma to please the base.
If it doesn't pass then the current administration doesn't want children to be safe.
If it does pass then one notch on the right wing belt.
I am growing so tired of Republican vs Democrat.
I'd much rather have effective government that works for everyone with equal rights for all. Is that so difficult? :grrr:

"To save the children from terrorists" would get one even further!
