Hi all,

My computer has been getting progressively slower. I've had it for a couple of years now and it's quite full. I received a e-mail about a product called PC Pitsop. It's one of those programs that promises to delete all the unwanted crap clogging up you computer and registry.

I'm just wondering how safe these things are. I mean it says I have 100 unwanted and unneeded things clogging up my registry, but is it safe to remove them?

Has anyone used this program? Is it good? Did it do what it said it would? Have you used a similar product you like better?

Thanks
Michael

you should try using ccleaner (stands for crap cleaner), its a free program that cleans your computer of all the stuff programs and windows updates leaves behind: http://www.ccleaner.com/

Then use the free defrag tool from auslogic to degfragment your disk and make it faster: http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag

Then finally, run your registry editor program (start -> run -> regedit) and navigate to the following two registry areas:
HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run
HKCU/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run
and go through the entries on the right side and remove all the entries for stuff that you don't use every day, for instance, quicktime's quickstart, apple ipod autostart programs, adobe reader quickstart, etc. If you don't know what the program is that is autostarting, then google it or post it here before deleting it.

after you do all the above and reboot, you should have a faster computer

Great advice Luke!

I can also recommend a program that I use called TuneUp Utilities. I have used it for a couple of years now. I have it set to autorun every friday and it cleans all sorts of crap. You can download a FULL 30 day trial at this site:

http://www.tune-up.com/products/tuneup-utilities/

Give it a try and I think you will be pleased.
