we're thinking about the option of streaming some of our vids on third party PPV / VOD theaters

any advice on which would be best ones to approach, who pays the best, things to be aware of, etc?

or should we work on streaming vids on our own sites?

thanks

From what I have heard and seen, sales on VOD is in decline because of Tube sites and Full DVD video sites like videobox.com etc.

However still money to be made, but I have no idea how it works as a producer. I would just be careful with what you sign, how its allowed to be used or sold.

I probably wouldn't sign an exclusive deal with any VOD, unless they're giving you a guaranteed payment. Why limit your options? The two biggest networks are Sureflix and AEBN, so why not approach both. Sureflix does pay-per-scene and AEBN does pay-per-minute. Sureflix has also just launched a pay-per-minute product.

all of the above - spread your content to as many as you like and don't sign any "exclusives" - actually, I don't think any of them offer that way anyway but I'm not sure - just make sure you know what you're signing

if you have a limited number of titles, feed them over time - some theaters and feeds would like you to shoot the wad all at once - but we've had great success by feeding them in drips and drops -

and yeah, do your own thing too - although, you can run into the problem of not having "exclusive" content when you do your own IF you've already licensed - that's something for you to determine - for example, we've done fine with our own thing consisting of some "totally exclusive" mixed with some not totally exclusive...

does that make sense? I've got a Love hangover today and I'm not writing very clearly!

Hmmmmm..... interesting observation about the tube sites. Perhaps that is why my AEBN commissions have been sinking, despite significant member signups. I'm already bracing myself for a record low month this time.

That could be true. If you just look at the sheer volume of traffic and sales that tube sites generate and the fact the videobox.com seems to be the site that most market as their premium membership site, I bet the model of 1000 dvds for $10 bucks is getting pretty well branded.

not only do members get thousands of videos from paysites like videobox but the videos are often bigger and better quality than most PPV sites AND you can save them to watch later.

Well it may be, but if you are saying that VideoBox.com is eating away at sales from AEBN or other sites.... I have a difficult time seeing that.

I just took a look at GayVideoBox. Big Whoop. Granted, they seem to have a modestly decent amount of movies --- circa the 20th century. I'm looking at their "popular stars" .... Blade Thompson? Chad Connors?? Are they kidding? Those guys retired during the Clinton Administration.

I can't believe anyone would keep paying for this service after a month or two...even if it is ten bucks. I guess this could be a good illustration of marketing porn just as a simple commodity, versus some real branding.

It's like going to the Dollar Store. People shop there not for the products, but for the one dollar price tag. And a certain market of people will shop at the Dollar Store. However - you can continue down the street and buy the same products (socks and underwear) at TJ Maxx, JC Pennys or Macys.... and happily pay twenty dollars for a pair of Calvin Kleins.

If this is why people are buying less from traditional VOD sites then I'm a bit puzzled.

Steve,

I am not sure that people are really buying less from VOD. If it is the case that people are buying less from VOD, I would assume that it's a price decision. Maybe the VOD whales don't have an extra $300 to spend a month on VOD every month. Or maybe their credit card that they originally signed up for is now maxed out and they used a different one with a lower limit.

Keep in mind that not all surfers are interested in the latest movies or the A stars; they are just looking to bust a nut or two. After telling five of my friends that Matthew Rush left Falcon, I gave up telling them as none knew who the heck he was, or did they really care to even know who he was.

If anything is cutting into VOD sales, it's sites like this -
http://www.gayboyporn.org/forum/
where you can find rapidshare links to 1,000s of ripped dvds that are currently being sold for $50+ all for about 45 euro for a years access to servers that are faster than many of the streaming servers at the VOD companies.

Bogs + rapidshare are the two worst enemies the adult industry faces...
