Are there tutorials on TGP trades. For example, I know a new TGP will not want to start trading with the big boys right away (at least I was told). I was also told to chane skim during periods of time to 100% to get boomarkers. And skim much less other periods as a way of building traffic.

There are dozens of different kinds of approach. Same people start tgo with an hard-cj skim (10% to galleries) in order to build quick traffic, then they rise gradually this skim to 50-60% to galleries. Some people start tgp with 1st click + 75% to galleries (80% or so real skim) in order to get bookmarkers. It's all about your expectations:

- more small sites or one big?
- quick and unstable traffic or rock solid and slow built traffic?
- traffic or money (during the starting period)?

How do you know which TGP's to trade with? One would not start out trading with a site doing 50,000 uniques a day, so how do you know who the sites are in your startup range of traffic so that the trades are not out of synch with each other?

you can get some idea by checking where they fall on the toplist on other sites. a site at the top of the list on a big tgp is obviously not a 1000 hit per day site.

btw depending on site compatibility, i wouldn't rule out a small and large site trading as long as the large site is cool with it. always worth talking to the owners, too.

Agree. A good site for checking toplist trades is ehguy.com. Stu runs a tight ship and has most of the "usual suspects" in his toplist.

As far as trading with a big site, it usually works out well. They have enough traffic to send back as much as you send them. You may want to talk with the owner like Basschick said just to be sure they don't force you too much in the beginning. If they do, it can cause you to over send back and starve your other trades.
