For those that produce content, AND put music on your videos, do you think out the music so that it fits the content or generally grab something you like and can obtain the rights to?

delete this. it was a test because my real reply didn't post and I don't have the energy to rekey it right now.

By an overwhelming majority, our members HATE music added to videos. I only add music to preview videos, intros/outros and very rarely to mask audio problems (unwanted background noise, mic malfunctions, etc). And I use the Sony Cinescore Vegas plugin to generate music.

We have libraries of music we have licensed and use as it fits. The clunk, clatter of the camera man and the train that runs along the coast are really distracting. When appropriate we use ambient sound. The problem with most music is that is it just bad and used way too loud. It should add to whatever is happening but in a such a subtle way as to almost not even be noticed.

The premise of Male Perfection is music videos featuring club music. The original sound tracks are removed and the music is loud, as club music should be.

So far I haven't filmed a video with a specific song in mind. When editing a video we select a song from the 15 or so that are in the "next" cue and try for the best fit. Let's face it, it's club music with a driving beat and the main choruses repeated a billion times so there isn't a lot of differentiation in the music I use.

There are some videos (such as a guy waking up in the morning and playing with himself) that would be better suited to slow(er) songs, and members have said as much. So far I've only used club remixes.

In the beginning the videos were edited extremely fast, like mainstream music videos. Members have requested that I ease up on the edits so they can enjoy the guys; that they are there for the guys, not the music videos. The way we film/edit now is very different from when the site originally opened - longer/slower pans and eight to sixteen beats (and often times longer) between edits *yawn* but I have to play to the members.

Honestly, I'm getting tired of the music video concept (mainly because the videos are no longer like mainstream music videos as they were in the beginning). This year the plan is to produce more videos that use the actual sound track from the shoot, and just use music subtly in the background, if at all, and I've started that transition by providing Behind the Scenes videos without any music.

we're known for our music tracks and interestingly, were called by our competition after we released our FIRST video BAREBACK MASTER, INC. (which has a raging soundtrack btw) -

the producer cajoled that he was in a "panic" because we had produced what he considered to be one of the first "professionally produced bareback movies ever" (that he was aware of) and we were going to put him out of business...

he went on to say that he would "...need to start using good lighting, adding music, doing proper editing and running extra long scenes to compete! And our price point would ruin him." - well that didn't happen and good competition is always healthy for business

a video is a mini film in many ways and certain key points in the plot and action can be accentuated with the addition of a soundtrack

we have almost always used music because we poke fun of traditional porn videos and have re-created the look and feel of 70's vids so music makes sense - and I like writing it from time to time especially for title sequences - we also buy canned music - its often appropriate

all said, I am in the process of reinventing the medium for ourselves again and using other effects in my tracks and music is integral to the process

don't forget that in the end, the viewer will most likely turn down the sound and play their own music - this happens all the time - to each his own - after all the age of "talkies" is upon us! (and color too)

In all the years I have been doing this I have never had a paying customer tell me that they dont like the music on our videos.

The people I hear bitch about the music are editors that just dont want to deal with dropping in the tracks.

For me its a no brainer. I always turn on some hot fuck music when we are fucking.
Guys like to fuck to music.

Well, obviously our viewers are totally different than your's. Lol. Although we've had numeous requests for names of tunes we've used during intros/outros... whenever we place music thoughout a video, we get a billion complaints (exaggerated for effect :)). "I want to hear the natual sounds".

As an editor, believe me, I would love to put pounding club beats or cinematic themes over an entire video. It sure would be a hell of a lot easier and less time consuming than trying to clean up the natural sound.
