just a friendly reminder that even though you have an antivirus program installed on your computer, its best to scan with a 2nd scanner every once in a while. I keep my system protected with Avast, but still like to run this free scanner once a month: http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Sorry, Luke, I'm Going To Blast You...

-- Be EXTREMELY careful about third party stuff.

NEVER, EVER use install ANYTHING from a 3rd-party upon recommendation - most of this is in fact loaded with spyware.

Tips:

1) Put your connection in your task bar - so you can see the little icon and tell when your connection is doing something. Having it there also lets you DISCONNECT easily. (Use "Help" or email me for details - very simple to set up!)

2) BUY antivirus software from a KNOWN MAKER. If you have a serious problem, you can collect $$ for it. (I have.)

3) Best Advice
Pay attention to your computer's performance - if anything seems wrong, start looking for underlying issues.

I actually check the links at link-lists I list with, to see what my potential customers might see while surfing my sites.

So far, Norton 360 (which is hard to love but works well) has kept my workstation safe.

That's notable, as I run WinXP Pro SP-1 without any Microsoft updates.

ugh, I hate norton, its a resource bitch plus it interferes with every day things with false messages all the time. Oh yeah, and they want me to pay for their "service" when I can get a quality a/v product like Avast for free????

Can't stand Norton, but on the subject of viruses, anyone got any clue about the riskware one called Invader? I took my machine in to have it cleaned, but gee, the morons there didn't do it, though they said they did. I am running Kaspersky 7.0 that says it is there, but when I run a scan, nada... my hair is rapidly growing thin, anyone got a clue?

I think Norton is worse than a Virus.

Ian, I haven't hear of that one, but have you tried Avast? Its free and updates every day, maybe check their website to see if they can clean that one.

Yeah, I have used Avast, have it on the other computers as well. I am leaning to the notion that it is a false positive, though there is a mention at the Kaspersky forums about it, but not much else. Kaspersky updates several times a day, which I like, but Avast does the job on the other machines. Did find a mention there too, but nothing specific to even tell me just what it is.

Aren't computers fun? :(

They are like bf's. They only put out when they want to.

Try being married, then its about which party to go to, which mall to go shopping at, then maybe they'll discuss sex... maybe... as long as the credit card holds out or the hair gel, whichever sticks longer

for several years, i've found norton to be the worst thing you can do to a computer. avast is much computer-friendlier.

btw, zonealarm antivirus uses the kaspersky engine, so for those who find kaspersky a little much but like the protection, now there's an option.

Folks,

Norton *used* to be worse than a virus.

Their newest product nags alot, but only runs 3 processes (compared to 17 for the latest version of CA's product) and doesn't seem to suffer the old Norton "take over yer f*cking life" issues.

For work, I use a Compaq 5000 series - P3, 700mhz w/ 768ram.

Norton 360 runs great on it, completely invisible.

Visit them and try the demo version.
