View Full Version : How many minutes is too many on a tour

Our stats show that surfers spend an average of 3.25 minutes in our preview area. My webmasters believes that is too long and that our tour has too much information in it. They believe we should cut the tour by at least half the length that it is now (actually they would like it to be three pages maximum).

I have a problem with that. I want people to see that we have a lot of high quality content as well as a long list of top muscle guys.

So the question is, how long is too long? How many minutes to surfer spend in a good preview area. BTW we have four preview videos that do not exceed 4 minutes between them all.

I don't think that's too long at all, really.

If someone is coming back again and again and again it might be an issue...

Some folks do come back to the tour often, but we only update one of the preview videos to show the new addition for the week and the preview is generally not more than 45 seconds long. But this is a very small number of the overall that hit the tour over and over. I am probably not supposed to divulge this but the overall conversion (including affiliates, SE traffic and type-in) sell at 1:273 (not including the bounce at the front page) but rather those that hit at least the welcome page (main page to some). We have always had a good mix of great traffic and trash traffic with ratios being pretty consistent week to week.

But overall traffic for the last 6 months has decreased with sales ratios being the same. So I am trying to figure out how to be as effective as possible with the traffic that we are getting. Just dumping a lot of surfers at the door is not the answer for us since our content is pretty specific.

Things (sales and traffic wise) have gotten WAY better the last two days but I can see no reason why. Almost to the levels of a year ago which were through the roof. But two days does not a trend make.
