My ass is sore and my legs are going numb. :(
It's time for a new office chair and this time I'm going to splurge! Right now I have a cheapy steno chair from Office Depot. This time I think I'm going to go with the best I can find... cost no object.
I think I found the one... http://www.est1867.com/prod_bro/Ambi.pdf. I've heard that Herman Miller makes the best office furniture. And this costs nearly $700... so it must be good. ;)
Does anyone have any other recommendations? I don't think I like those mesh chairs since I sit with my bare foot tucked up on the seat much of the time. And I don't think that the mesh would feel good against my skin. Also, I'm only looking at computer/task chairs. I have no need for an exec chair.

I have a set of SteelCase office chairs -- adjustable in about every direction and have not shown wear in the 6 years I have owned them.

Same price range as Herman Miller -- take a test sit in as many as you can. The office chair I had in the county attorney's office was only $200 at Staples but still super comfortable even though it did not have all the adjustable features.

The Herman Miller chairs (http://www.hermanmiller.com/CDA/SSA/Product/1,1592,a10-c440-p8,00.html) are really good, been using them for years

We use both Steelcase and The Herman Miller Chairs. They are both very comfortable. Spend good money on a good chair.

Atm I use an Ikea chair. I paid it 300 euros. Those Herman Miller chairs look really good. I'll ask one of them to the husband of my mom as Christmas present! Usually his presents are chairs or rare bottles of beer. A chair for this year! :D

The secret to Herman Miller is, buy them second hand. New they cost a fortune but 2nd hand they look good as new but a fraction of the price. :D
Specially now with a lot of Bankers loosing their jobs, I'm sure there will be a good amount of 2ndhand Herman millers to be found!

That's a damn good idea! I think that it'd be pretty hard finding a 2nd hand one here in Italy but I could try. I have a couple of friends into this kind of "market". I'll ask them.

In Dallas, the Great Indoors sells Herman Miller and generally has a sale. I got almost $400 off on mine.

didn't we have this conversation over two years ago when I elaborated on the benefits of buying ONE good chair that lasts and is good for you as opposed to buying a few Chinese made chairs from Office Depot?
Herman Millier's Mirra and Aeron chairs are the standard of the industry and will last a very long time - they can even be repaired if necessary and will save you on chiropractic and orthopedic bills resulting from sitting in those bad chairs for too long!
if you shop on line, you can find the chair unassembled (sp?) for just under $500 but god forbid trying to put it together - you can also look at your local Herman Miller contract store to see if they have any returned items or go to a bankruptcy liquidation house to see if any chairs are in inventory
don't forget that there are different widths available - secretarial, executive, etc... they are really the best and last forever!

Lol, yes Tony... we had this same conversation a long time ago. Yet, I'm still sitting on the same crappy chinese Office Depot chair! And the nerves in my legs have paid an awful price.
Thanks everyone for your input. I've looked online for new and used HM chairs but all I can find are the Aeron (mesh) chairs which I'm not really interested in. I want a normal cushioned computer/task chair.
I did find an actual Herman Miller store here in Dallas so it looks like I'll have to leave the house to get one. Lol.

I finally found my chair! :D
http://host.humanscale.com/docs/hostLibrary/HS-FCB-0606.pdf
I ordered it from http://www.mcergo.com/. The prices were about $200 less than the HumanScale online shop. I bought the one without the headrest with a gel seat insert in Pomegranate Vellum fabric and polished aluminum frame. Now I just have to wait several weeks for it to be custom built. :/

I'm not big on leather for seating either... not a moral choice for me... just a preference. You can choose different coverings (including leather) for the HumanScale chairs.
The Steelcase chairs that you mentioned look awesome too. From my research, Steelcase, HumanScale and Herman Miller seem to be the best of the best. And I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

by all means, please let us know how it works and feels
I'm ready to throw away our office suites - they're biodegradable and don't last that long but do match everything else cardboard in our offices...

That chair looks amazingly similar to what I'm sitting on right now. But your's looks more comfortable. ;)
