today a webmaster asked me to check a video in his site. he said a member couldn't get it to play and that he had actually re-encoded it and re-uploaded it and the member still had no luck. so i went and checked it - first the best versions in both streaming and downloadable, then the next. finally i found the problem - the lower quality WMV was corrupted. the webmaster couldn't find the problem because he doesn't even think about the lower quality videos, and i admit i put it off till last for the same reason.
now, this wasn't a dialup clip - just a lower broadband clip. but still something to think about since i know a lot of sites that have stopped offering a lower video and only go with a very high broadband speed.
and remember, if you check your stats to see what videos are being watched, some stats programs present them in order of bandwidth used, so a smaller video won't show up at the top of the stats even if it got more views.
