His mistreatment at GMS was the reason I asked for my account to be deleted over there.
he is someone with a lot knowledge. Too bad JP and Mark could not appreciate how big of an asset too that board he was by posting there.
Just wanted to give you a special welcome...

Add a special welcome from me as well. Chip has always been one to help me.

I have enjoyed reading his posts, simply because they are concise, & 99 out of 100 times on topic, and I learn a lot, or at least they give me lots to think about. Nice to see him here too.

Such kind words!
I'm really happy to see this community growing so quickly and happy to be a part of it and to be welcomed so graciously.
To be quite honest, I've been really disheartened to see the GMS community go downhill so fast... and surprised that more significant action wasn't taken sooner... but out of every dark cloud there's a silver lining, and I think the decision to start the Gaydemon board was a really good one, and I think that having a couple of good webmaster communities will in the long run be a really positive thing for the greater gay adult industry as a whole.

i've always found chip to be one of the most knowledgeable webmasters, and he is generous in sharing his knowledge. and, of course, a thoroughly nice guy :)

I hope this isn't too much drama for this board. Moderators, feel free to remove this post if it is :)
In a nutshell, I felt the noise, drama, and bickering at GMS was getting completely out of control for a business-centered community. I kept calling for better moderation. JP finally said, in so many words, "fuck you, I have no intention of moderating, I like drama" to which I responded "OK, that's cool, it's your board, and so you can set the rules" and let it go and accepted it at face value.
But then, Mark started a thread and asked if the board should be "censored", to which I responded that no reasonable person would be in favor of censorship, but appropriate moderation (including a description of what it would entail) would be welcomed by practically everyone, would improve the quality of the board, and would not restrict anyone's right to speak or communicate. Several other people posted and agreed, and pointed out that the current moderation policy was inconsistently applied and inappropriate.
Apparently that was not the response they were looking for, so they deleted the thread.
I posted another thread pointing out that they had deleted the "should the board be censored" thread, and suggesting that removing a thread in which the board owner was asking for honest input from the community probably did not help people's opinion of the board, or the level of transparency in the community. The second thread was also deleted.
Then, another poster asked what other gay webmaster communities were around. I and a couple of other posters made several suggestions, including GWW, Unity360, and one or two others. That thread was also deleted.
I posted one more thread pointing out that rampant thread deletion was happening, and it was concerning to me (and probably to others) because it affected the overall integrity of the community.
JP deleted that thread, banned me, and posted an offensive statement claiming I'd posted 5 threads (instead of two), accusing me of whining, calling me names, and claiming that I had the agenda of "working for Lee" (I am a moderator at GWW) to destroy GMS. Of course, that wasn't true, but in an interesting karmic twist, the very thing JP accused me of, he did a much better job of achieving himself, through banning me and others, and the resulting uproar, than anyone else could have.
In spite of several emails and ICQs I sent to Mark, and a promise from David (who works with Mark) that Mark would contact me, I have never heard anything from him or from anyone else.
Honestly, since it's a private community, Mark is totally within his rights to ban anyone, including me. I personally don't think it was necessarily the wisest move, but he obviously felt (and feels) that it is the right decision, and perhaps it is also a wise move for me, since I find the calmer environment here and at GWW to be much more conducive to business.

That's exactly how JP was treating not just _chip but others. By calling them names. It seemed like he forgot GMS was not GFY. where people might be used to the name calling and stuff. Chip Made some good points without being confrontational, but they took the easy way out. Deleting anything related to the uproar and made it look like nothing happened.

But I'm happy to see Chip posting here. I learn a lot from him.
That's what some people do not understand. The community is there with or without the boards.
Boards are just tools we use to communicate. I would follow abostonboy , basschick, dzinerbear, deanb (just to name a few) anywhere.
They give great advice without expecting anything in return.

Actually Chip. I believe you made a thread called, "so the thread on censorship got censored". That was the thread that kept coming back and then getting deleted. If I am not mistaken it was that thread that BOTH times I tried to reply to, it got deleted as I was replying. :bang::bang::bang::bang:
Yeah. It gave me a headache.

I figured of all of the threads that would be deleted it was my thread protesting Chips ban, which became the second longest thread ever on GMS! LOL
