View Full Version : Paysite trend? 10 videos then gone..

I've noticed over the last year that there seems to be somewhat of a trend (and from what I can see mostly east european sites).

A site is launched, often backed by a large amount of free site builders, the sites looks good, got decent quality content but after opening the site never updates again. Instead they seem to move on to make another site, and only ever add 10 videos but then create another site and another..

From what I have seen they actually give away ALL the content they feature to affiliates to use to promote the site. So if you actually signed up as an affilaite you would get access to all the content.

Surly this is trend that damages other sites that actually do produce content and update on a regular basis!?

But I guess it most be a successful business model since more people are doing it.

In my experience, paysites convert much better during their 1st few weeks online than they do later on. Even with updates. Of course there are exceptions to the rule but for the most part, that is how it works for me and my traffic

That being said, I can see why this business model is popular. Crank out a new site, rake in the sales and then on to the next one.

Is similar to what I do with my tgp network. My new sites seem to make more sales than my established sites with bookmarkers. So I am continuously launching new sites. Try to do at least 1 a month.

I think this is a bad move from short sighted affiliate programs, I know that it normally takes us about 6 months to get a paysite up to speed as far as getting a nice membership base, but after that the rebills are what make money! Its a well known fact in business: keeping your existing customers is cheaper than getting new ones. Keep your existing members happy with regular updates of quality content and you will come out the winner in the long run!!!

Hi, Y'all!

I've seen a few of these over the last 18 months or so, and I've always wondered about them.

Luke - I agree it's not good for the "general reputation" of paysites in an overall sense, but the ones I've seen (don't remember names at this point) certainly didn't look like they took half a year to build... LOL!

Bjorn - Like Chubbs writes, the business model sort of makes sense: Make a big initial splash, grab the fast money and then let it fade away.

Of course, the next logical step would be to re-market it in the AVS market until it stops selling there.

Then finally kill it.

What I don't like about the entire concept is that it increases the churn rate in this industry.

When I started way back in 2001, I could make a decent living from ~ 30 new freesites a month.

Now it takes almost that per week...

This is basically teaching our customers that MORE = BETTER, and the end result of that is lower quality. Studios run the models through like heads of beef at a packing plant and the output is presented in a very templated form these days.

(One of my favorite sites is www.bukbuddies.com because it looks like NOTHING else out there...)

Isn't Buk Buddies great? I love it. I was almost sorry when they redesigned it because I thought it was going to lose it's amateur appeal. But it's still hot.

dzinerbear -

At the risk of causing dreaded "thread drift," I have to agree with you...

Beleive it or not, Buk's new layout is pretty much the old layout - so far, the member's area is the same old loveable, chaotic heap!

It's the only paysite in 3 years that has caused me to scratch my head trying to breeze through it while writing a review.

I actually had to look at page source to count galleries, images, et cetera.

Wish more paysites showed the same level of creativity - and I'll bet a lot of our paying customers feel the same way.

Yeah I kind of liked how you'd coast along used to seeing things one way, and then, the designer would suddenly say, "I think I want to make a new page, so here ..." and everything would change. It was a chaotic mess, but charming and appealing at the same time. It's exactly how an amateur webmaster would put together a site.

back to the 10 episodes and out thing... braincash and deecash have a lot of sites they don't update and sites they do in their network. worst case scenario, if the sites don't sell as well at least they make more bonus content for the sites that do.

Exactly, I would have thought as you Luke that it woudl be cheaper and better to keep existing members rather than just hunting for new ones all the time.

My business model is based on recurring memberships, I rarly sell any Pay Per Sale sites unless I know they will never reocurr.

It actuall has meant for me that I can drop 60% of my traffic and still have more or less the same revenue as before a drop. These drops do happen due to google (atleast in the past when I updated gaydemon designs.)

I dont know, but I just dont like these small sites. I would have been really disappointed if I signed as a member only to find 10 videos (that I really love) and never see anymore.

Then again as a gaydemon visitor mentioned to me, even if they are small these sites often give you access to ALL their sites, so in some cases that can add up to a lot of videos even if each site only has 10.

That is a good point. The Rainbow Rev sites usually get bad reviews as they have a small number of videos and plug ins. However if you take the site as a "whole package" it's actually a pretty good deal. All sites combined and it's a pretty big mega site for $30 a month.
