View Full Version : Does anyone actually buy fonts?

I have to admit that the only font I've ever bought was Helvetica. I'll usually make due with what I can find on free font sites.

I do only visit font sites that appear to have user-created fonts. At worst, they may mimic existing fonts. Does that make me a bad person? :D

Not a bad person. But, I do buy fonts. I think I have spent over $2,000 on fonts over the past years.

I love House Industries.

It is a default font for Macs only.

Yep I have. Two. Not including the 1000 free font packages for 29.95 kind of thing.

It isn't a standard font on Windows PCs though.

Yep, that's where I get some of my fonts. In fact, you're probably who gave me those links in the first place. ;)

I think Geneva is the other common Mac font that isn't standard on PCs. If you want that one, you'll have to pay for it.

I thought Helvetica came with office?

I think I bought Helvetica after I got Office 2007... hmmm... maybe it was before. At least I know I didn't have it on my old computer with Office 2004.

Nope. At least not with my version of Office XP, 2003 and 2007.

That's funny you should mention that. It looks like Microsoft is pushing to make Calibri and Cambria standard fonts. They seem to be my default Outlook fonts and I don't ever recall them before Office 2007.

no doubt !! I've put those links up quite a few times over the years. I'm allergic to buying a font if I can get one free. rofl

basschick

it isn't supplied on any of our 3 windows boxes, and i recall having to buy it for my old 98 box back in the day when a client wanted us to use it.

there are certain cuts of Helvetica and thousands of other faces that don't come FREE with anything! I buy fonts - but then, I also design them so I know what kind of time and $$$ goes into designing them

I think its horrible that people grab them - its like snitching © copyrighted images or clips or published works or SOFTWARE as far as I am concerned - reprehensible in fact!

font packages can be inexpensive but as far as I am concerned, and most of the designers I've worked with, there are only a few really good type faces - lots of junky and unreadable ones around cluttering up the environment
