And something else that seems strange to me, stomach cancer is a HUGE cause of death in China. But youd think with all the healthy green tea and other healthy herbs they eat that they would be very healthy.
strange

China has the worst polution in the world...

We love Peking Duck and all kinds of Chinese food - now I know where that fabulous smoky flavor comes from...

oh, and btw, as far as I'm concerned, all things Parisian are fabulous - even the smell of Gitannes early in the morning over coffee...

For many years, China and Japan used asbestos in the process of refining (polishing off) the hulls of rice. A number of researchers have postulated that as the cause of all the stomach cancer in those two countries (and perhaps other asian countries as well.)

Dunno about the French, maybe they do have higher rates of lung cancer? Either way, don't kid yourself, smoking has been proven to cause cancer, no two ways about it.

actually, I did some research and some reading on the subject....
and according to the Foundation for Promotion of Cancer Reasearch, (because I'm interested having smoked for 30 years and love spending time in Paris and Rome...)

Being a MS/Psych grad student, after years in Journalism and writing about public health issues, I look for health stats from govt health agencies.

The only thing I ever challenge regarding govt reporting, is when they label HIV/AIDS a "gay" disease. "Gay" is not a statistical descriptor, and not germane to educating the entire population.

I don't disagree with numbers, just labels - specifically the Bush Administration always attributing the annual increase in HIV infections to young "gay" men. Men who engage in at-risk sexual behavior, whether it be due to delusions of invincibility, drug use and abuse, prostitution, survival shelter, (but not including rape and abuse), are "risky," "drug users," and "prostitutes" first, not "gay".

As for diseases and illnesses related to smoking and second hand cig smoke - I go with govt stats. www.nih.gov first, then CDC. I don't look to .org blogs.

Huh? wtf? :surprised:

Maybe they smoke lighter cigarettes?

I remember one time I had dinner with friends in Canada and they were smoking Players cigarettes and I was smoking american camels, and they were coughing and choking to my cigarettes.
I think theirs were much lighter and had less chemicals
