You have to go to the chinese supermarket to get tumeric? Or is it a special kind of tumeric?
I guess we're spoiled here in the US, we can find that at pretty much any grocery.

Yes you can get a small jar at any supermarket. But the Chinese supermarket does a big bag for the same price. It's the best place for pulses, rice, herbs and spices. And just round the corner.
