is there a free blog host that uses wordpress? i want to do a blog workshop next because i am starting a blog as are a few others i know. but i think that getting acquainted with wordpress is a must, and i'm not sure that everyone will want to put wordpress on their own server or account the first time they use it.
thoughts?

Twan's SensualWriter is a great service and uses WP.
Another option would be to set up one WPMU account and create multiple users/blogs.

SensualWriter says its editor is "based on" wordpress. is it close enough to help the people learn who haven't used WP yet?

Patti, every freehost that uses WP (including sensual) use WPMU, which is the Multi User version of WP. Its the same as WP except it does not allow you to add your own plugins and themes, you have to work with the ones that the freehost provides. So your choice is either accept that limitation or have everyone build their own WPblog.

Perhaps part of the 'working with wordpress' is doing an actual install. I mean it really is not painful, if one has a few simple tools open to them on their server. Such as FTP and a database.
It could be part of the 'workshop' in discussing the install, whether to use the root of a domain, or a sub folder, and the configurations one needs to do for securing it.
While not hard, it can be intimidating, was to me, so it might be worth having it on your own server.

Chubbs, that would work nicely! I vote for using a service from one of our own community members :)

thanks, but since chubbs is an active community member, i like the idea of supporting his project. also since he's around, if we run into any issues, we'll be able to tell him about it and get a response quickly - always a plus :)
