Is counters such as http://www.sextracker.com/ still a source for traffic?

I know they where big several years back, but is still worth using them? Does it actually give an significant traffic?

Or are there other users for them? Surely no one relies on them for statistics etc?

Going way back (circa 2002) they were a genuine traffic pump, especially nice for AVS sites because the AVS wasn't being "presold" by a directory.

But...

I've been tracking traffic from the SexTracker / SexList suite of linklists at www.hardcockreport.com since 07-13-2007, and it amounts to about 6.26% of my total traffic.

Getting and installing the counters amounts to about 20% of the time I spend building Hard Cock Report sites, so it's out of balance in that respect.

And as you mentioned in email a week or so ago, some virus/security programs are sensitive to the counter code. This surely scares some visitors away, and I don't like anything that sets off a warning before someone sees a join page cookie.

There's one more consideration here as well, and it has to do with the quality of traffic coming from ST/SL these days.

These lists are mostly unmoderated, so there is a lot of junk; I think surfers coming in this way are much less likely to join something.

Just be careful with counters. Some flag security warnings now.
