So who is ready for the newest wordpress release? 2.5 due out today, postponed till next week now?

Have you checked to see if your plugins and themes are compatible?

Theme Compatibility List (http://codex.wordpress.org/Themes/Theme_Compatibility/)

Plugin Compatibility List (http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Plugin_Compatibility/)

For the record, I hate all these damn upgrades and new releases. :grrr:

Actually, the upgrade from 2.3 to 2.5 shouldn't be hard, and in all honesty the move from 2.2 to 2.3 wasn't as bas as I expected. The change was a complete revision of the core structure, but it seemed to go okay.

Lucky you! ;)

Movable type can be tricker, and require template changes.. I just got to face it!

Yes, it seems that upgrades that involve major 'core' changes to tend to screw up the add ons. Why I no longer just 'click upgrade now' when these programs insist on an upgrade. Also why you really need to check the compatibility list for both themes & plug ins.

It is also why I am now running wordpress on my pc, to check the upgrade offline and why when upgrading its a good idea to use a wordpress default theme, and turn off the plug ins other than the anti spam. Then to turn them on one by one, checking to make sure they don't break the bloody program after its upgraded.. :whip:

Well Wordpress 2.5 RC1 is now out there. (RC = release candidate) but be wary, as it is still being bug proofed or something. I will wait till the stable release is out, and the obligatory security update that generally comes a week later :bang:

Reading the press release for 2.5, I am definitely gonna be interested, as it supposedly comes with pre built gallery creation plugins, better tag control, and well, we'll see. whistle

I will wait for a stable release before upgrading all my wordpress sites

how long does it usually take for a stable release to appear?

Think the last one took about a month, there will be an announcement in your blog admin, telling you what version is out there. If its a release or beta test it usually has the RC designation beside it, the stable one's don't.

I find too, that generally within a week or two, there is a security update release, so I tend to wait for that one to come out before doing the upgrades, specially when they change the 'core'. :bang:

I'm just hoping they haven't decided to 'unsupport' any coding tags this time around. Man, that was a mess changing code on a shitload of templates for both myself and various clients.

I really don't know, but from reading more on what they are changing, I am feeling rather nervous. They are making changes to how the database stores variables or such for at least the 'comment' section of the blog, changing the code to make it 'easier for plug in developer's' whatever that means.

There are some major changes for the admin section as well, and it does claim to be adjusting how 'tags' work. Also changes to the 'write' portion.

RC 1 is showing some major errors in the plugin department too. Supposedly one feature, if I read it right, is that 2.5 will be checking all plug ins and providing automatic updates of them, now exactly what that means I am not sure, but isn't working in the first release, so that is not encouraging.

Fingers crossed, as I have a bad feeling on this upgrade.
