Abostonboy did a thread about Alexa. Does anyone have any comments about the information at http://www.quantcast.com/ ? I've looked at it a few times for my domains.

they say gaydemon.com is a escort agency.. Seems to me they are using DMOZ database. I never did manage to get that bloody DMOZ listing updated. I so dont like them!
Anyway..
I have seen it before and it gives you some interesting statistics, but I wonder how they collect that data.
From looking at my own listing its not accurate, its actually a lot lower than the real figures are. Plus of course they only measure a US audiance.
The question again is what value is a site like Alexa or Quantcast if they are off by about 40%.
In normal statistics anyone who came up with a survey that was 40% off reality would be laughed at. That would be seen as a really badly done survey.
But again, it gives you a VERY rough idea about how things are.

Oh I don't know, up here in Canada we elect them as Finance Minister... so their budget estimates are shall we say, a wee bit off? lol

Quantcast can be VERY accurate. It allows sites to register and draws actual traffic stats from them. Of course only large sites with lots of traffic (and usually Mainstream sites) register their domains.
A registered domain is probably 90% accurate, an unregistered domain is probably 25% accurate (which is still better than Alexa).

I had no idea, I wonder what the benefits are from registering?

If you are a mainstream site and want to get advertising from a big company like CocaCola there is a big advantage to having stats verified and available. If you are a porn site, not sure how much help it would be.

It also says you accept advertising. Any good deals?
